Joe Rexroat, age 74 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City.
Orval Joseph Rexroat was born on October 18, 1951, to parents Grafton and Velma Darlene (Stockstill) Rexroat in Logan, IA. Joe graduated from Lytton High School in 1969.
On June 18, 1971, Joe married Jean Ann Just. They made their home in Sac City. Joe worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator for most of his adult life; he was the best dozer operator in NW Iowa. Joe called himself an artist as he sculpted the earth. After retiring, his fellow operators would often comment how he was the best to have learned from.
Joe loved spending time with his family and friends. He and Jean hosted many get-togethers at their J & J Bar “N” on the farm for all to enjoy. He always looked forward to hosting holiday and special events there too. Joe loved being outside working on the farm. He was happy to be surrounded by so many trees, all 10,783 of them…yes, he counted them all.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Rexroat; parents Graf and Darlene Rexroat; sisters: Rosalie Peters, Nancy Ryan, Sandy Johnson, and Deane Sutherland; brother Ted Rexroat; parents-in-law Merlin and Phyllis Just; and brother-in-law Norm Just.
Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Ann Rexroat; beloved grandson/grandchildren Lyncoln Matthew Joseph Rexroat and his siblings Haylie, Payge, and Nathyn Tripp; sisters Patricia Koch and Eileen McGuire; brother Kenny McDonough; brothers-in-law Tug Just and Marlin (Connie) Just; special niece Lisa Blessington; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends who brought him so much joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
