LeRoy Mahler, age 76 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. LeRoy Henry Mahler was born on July 31, 1949, in Storm Lake, IA, to parents Elmer and Waldina (Buckendahl) Mahler. He was raised mostly in Sac City where he attended school before he moved to Minneapolis, MN. LeRoy graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis with the Class of 1968.
Following graduation, LeRoy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from June 1968 until August of 1972. During his time in the military, he attended H-3 helicopter schooling and worked on H-3 helicopters. Though he seldom spoke of it, his service in Vietnam had a deep impact on him.
On June 23, 1973, LeRoy was united in marriage to Teresa Page. To this union, one son, Brian, was born. The couple later divorced.
LeRoy had many jobs in early adulthood, including being a Chevrolet mechanic, farmer, parts dealer, seed corn truck driver, and working at Indian Lanes Bowling Alley in Sac City. The job he was most proud of was working as a pin spotter repairman from 1988 until 2000, a career he truly enjoyed. His work took him all across Iowa and surrounding states; he was known as the person to call when a bowling alley needed repairs. In 1999, LeRoy moved to Ida Grove, IA, where he worked at the bowling alley there while also holding various other jobs. While in Ida Grove, he was a member of the American Legion Post #61. In 2012, he moved back to Sac City.
LeRoy had many passions throughout his life. He loved to bowl - he was very proud of his perfect 300 game. He loved gardening and took great pride in sharing his produce with others or preserving it. He also had a deep love for motorcycles and owned a Harley-Davidson for many years. LeRoy was an active member of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group), serving as a director of two Iowa chapters and also serving on the state rally committee. He especially enjoyed traveling to Sturgis, SD, along with many other motorcycle trips and adventures over the years. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly of Minnesota sports teams, especially the Minnesota Vikings. He was a racing fan, having raced late models when he was younger.
Above all, LeRoy treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his granddaughters, as well as the many friends he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
LeRoy is survived by his son, Brian (Jackie) Mahler of Sac City; granddaughters Cora and Caroline Mahler both of Sac City; brothers Robert (Beverly) Mahler of Cherokee, IA, Larry Mahler of Sac City, and Herb (Terri) Mahler of Sac City; sister JoAnne (Jerry) Pitts of Fontanelle, IA; sister-in-law Judy Mahler of Blue Springs, MO; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Waldina Mahler; sister Doris Scharton; brother Alden “Spike” Mahler; sister-in-law Marilyn Mahler; and niece Kellie Mahler.
