Thomas “Tom” Dean Platt, age 66 of Early, IA, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at his home.
Tom was born on December 25, 1959, in Sac City, IA, to parents James and Rita (Heinrichs) Platt. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early on December 25, 1959. He grew up in Early, where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and later graduated from Crestland High School.
On December 22, 1984, Tom was united in marriage to Lynn Marie Hoffman. Together they were blessed with three children: Matthew, Rob, and Danielle.
Tom spent most of his life working with turkeys and hogs and was employed at IBP/Tyson in Storm Lake, IA, for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed beekeeping, a hobby that brought him great satisfaction. He retired in December of 2024.
Tom had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar in small bands throughout his life. He also loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and especially mushroom hunting with family and friends. Known as a devoted father and a loyal friend, Tom cherished time spent with those he loved. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and found joy in doing so. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Platt of Early, IA; children Matthew Platt (Tiffany Ansel Baker) of Early, IA, Rob (Ellisa) Greer of Port Orchard, WA, and Danielle Quail of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren: Shelby (Zack) Melvin, Kira Greer, Miram Greer, Kenzie Greer, Aila Greer, Marissa and Hayleigh Quail; siblings: Don (Sherry) Platt of Fort Dodge, IA, Richard Platt of Eldridge, IA, Bob (Nancy) Platt of Davenport, IA, Lois Carmen of IL, Judy (Ron) Warren of Early, IA, Connie (Curt) Bronnenberg of Perry, IA, and Shirley Stadler of Nemaha, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rita Platt; brothers Randy Platt, John Platt, and James Platt, Jr.; sisters Maralyn Platt and Janet Platt; and nephew Nahshon Platt.
