Greg Coon, age 79 of Albert City, IA, formerly of Sac City, IA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his home. Gregory Allen Coon was born on July 30, 1946, in Storm Lake, IA, to parents Marvin and Lorraine (Starken) Coon. He grew up in Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1965.
Greg was in the United States Navy from 1965-1969, serving two tours in Vietnam. He returned home and was united in marriage to Vicki Brotherton in October 1970. They were blessed with three children, Chad, Rebecca, and Tyler. The couple later divorced.
Greg worked for several people/places throughout his working years, mostly in construction. In his later years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle as often as he could and nothing brought him greater joy though than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Chad (Jen) Coon of Cedar Falls, IA, Rebecca (Dan) Slater of Sac City, IA, and Tyler (Beth) Coon of Polk City, IA; grandchildren: Caitlyn Scheffers, Megan (Sean) Owens, Connor Slater, Michael Slater, Tommy Coon, Lauren Coon, Carter Slater, Lincoln and Oaklynn Coon; great-grandchildren Hannah Scheffers, Shiloh and Lillian Owens; brother Larry (Deb) Coon of Lytton, IA; sister Pat Carlson of Storm Lake, IA; several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Coon and Lorraine Albrecht; stepfather Loren Albrecht; and grandson Nicholas Coon.
