Carol Grau, age 90 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA.
Carol Mae was born on September 5, 1935, in Lake View, IA, to parents Carl and Margaret (Strohmeir) Grau. She was institutionalized at a young age and later moved to the Howard Center in Sac City in January of 1984 to receive services. She made the Howard Center her home for more than 40 years. During her time there, Carol worked in the can redemption and recycling center, along with several other small jobs they offered. She took pride in her work but was very happy when the day finally came for her to retire.
Carol had a love for Minnie and Mickey Mouse and enjoyed collecting stuffed animals. She was a sweet soul who loved children and babies—holding them brought her so much joy. In her free time, she enjoyed coloring and visiting with anyone who would take the time to chat.
Carol treasured her church family and always looked forward to their visits. Above all, she adored the staff at the Howard Center, who became like family to her over the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and cared for her.
Carol is survived by her Howard Center & St. Paul’s Lutheran Church families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret Grau; siblings Charlie, Bob, and Elma Grau.

“I remember her. Her brother was my forever buddy, Charlie. Everyone knew Charlie. If you looked away from him, he could tell a story or ask questions effortlessly. Otherwise he got nervous. He always put his hand on my shoulder and was a regular visitor when I worked at Picadilly Pizza. Usually only stopping in to talk and he loved to help clear the tables. "I know it" was his favorite saying or reply. I hope he knows how much he meant to me and my mom - and so many others. The Howard Activity Center family taught us so much at St. Paul's. We are all God's children. Now she's reunited with loved ones and is in awe of our Savior. RIP Carol. ”

“My sympathy to the family and friends. Carol was a special, kind and caring person. She recently was Baptized into the Lord and she was a believer. She will be united with her brother Charlie and family and what a glorious reunion that will be. Hugs and Prayers to everyone.”
