Gloria Johnson, age 70 of Lytton, IA, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Gloria Ann Johnson was born on November 17, 1954, to parents Darrell and Jeanette (Bjorklund) Johnson in Storm Lake, IA. She attended school through the third grade before moving to El Campo, TX, with her family for three years. They returned to Iowa and she graduated from Fonda High School. After graduation, Gloria attended Iowa Central Community College.
Gloria was married to Merle Steven Stauter, Sr. and they were blessed with four children, Amanda, Tonya, Merle Steven, Jr., and Audrey. They later divorced.
Gloria worked for the Newell-Fonda Community School District as a bus driver for many years before moving to Kingsley, IA. She returned to the area, and has resided in Lytton since 2012. Gloria was a Home Health Aide for Sac County Public Health for twenty years. This was her calling, for sure. It was more than just a job to her; she took time to visit with her clients and easily bonded with them. She was a sweet person who found joy in helping others.
Family meant the world to Gloria and every one of her children and grandchildren would tell you that as she followed all the sports, activities, and events they participated in. She was so proud of them!
In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, quilting, reading, gardening, playing cards, and baking. She liked to travel and for many years went to Florida for three weeks at a time in the winter. Gloria was a member of Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton and was a Lytton Chamber member.
She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her children: Amanda McAtee of Rhinelander, WI, Tonya (Josh) Maske of Eaton, CO, Steve (Beth) Stauter of Lake City, IA, and Audrey Stauter (Chad Kost) of Rockwell City, IA; grandchildren: Alexandria and Dakota Bundy, Ava and Hunter Meistad, Kat McAtee, Blaine McAtee, Emily, Cooper and Maylea Maske, Haley (Blake) McAlister, Brody (Faith) Stauter, Merle Stauter, Maddy Sievers (John Maloney), and Sam Kost; great-grandchildren Sterling Bundy and Walker Maloney; brother Kevin (Paula) Johnson of Aurelia, IA; sister Renae (Pat) Bouska of Laurens, IA; sister-in-law Diane Johnson of Rice Lake, WI; other extended family members and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Jeanette Johnson; brother Gaylen Johnson; significant other Marc Dettmann; many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
