Michael “Mike” Joseph Green, 70, of Sac City, Iowa, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Born April 18, 1955, at Loring Hospital in Sac City to David and Grace (Duffy) Green, Mike lived his entire life rooted in the town and community he loved. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, graduated with the Sac City High School class of 1973, and later followed his calling to the World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City after attending the University of South Dakota.
On September 14, 1979, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Jeani, at St. Mary’s. Together they raised three sons—Dave, Patrick, and Jim—while working side by side with his mother, Grace, at Green Real Estate & Auction Company and Sac County Abstract.
Mike never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation, the kind of man who could make a deal, share a laugh, and leave you feeling better than when you arrived. A handshake from Mike meant something. If there was a way to help, he quietly made it happen—most often without seeking credit.  He truly valued and cherished all of the people he got to meet and work with throughout the years; he truly loved our community and the people in it.
A fourth-generation auctioneer and proud owner of Green Real Estate & Auction Company, Mike was more than a businessman—he was a cornerstone of the community. He carried on the family’s auctioneering tradition with unmatched energy, skill, and heart, becoming a trusted figure across Sac County and beyond.  He spent many years supporting auctions throughout the region, including horse auctions at the Belle Plaine Western Exchange, machinery auctions at the Carroll and Pocahontas sales barns and too many others to mention. He was especially proud when his youngest son, Jim, joined him as a fifth-generation auctioneer, ensuring the legacy would continue.
Outside of work, Mike loved time spent with family and friends at the cabin in Lake View, on the golf course, or horseback riding. He and Jeani made memories traveling—especially to Wyoming’s open spaces, Florida’s beaches, Ireland’s green hills, and their annual trip to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo.
Mike also gave generously of his time.  He led the Loring Hospital board as chairman for over thirty years, served on the boards of directors for the REC and Citizens Bank, and contributed to many other local boards and committees.  He lent his voice and humor as emcee for various community and school events and as auctioneer at countless charity benefits and the Sac County Fair’s woodcarving and 4H livestock auctions.  He was always eager to lend a hand or donate when a community or church project needed support.
More than anything, Mike loved his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. His quick wit, generous spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and countless people who had the honor of crossing paths with him. His life was a testament to faith, family, and community.  Though his time here on earth feels too short, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind will carry on.  He was truly “one of the good guys”.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Jeani of Sac City; his sons Dave (Katie) of Kansas City, Pat (Mary) of Hudson, OH, and Jim (Cassie) of Sac City; and his ten grandchildren: Ava, Emery, and Graham Green, Lucy, Hank, Violet, and Mikey Green, Max, Noah, and Madi Green; brothers-in-law Tom (Ann) O’Connor of Boston, MA, Doug Kerans of The Villages, FL; sisters-in-law Joni (Doug) Carlson of Lake Lotawana, MO, and Rose (Dana) Buckingham of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Grace Green; his siblings, Robert Green and Barbara (Randy) Steinkamp; sisters-in-law Linda Green, Patricia Gail Kerans, and Cathryn (Bruce) Martin; and parents-in-law Bert (Rose) O’Connor.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please know the family will be donating monetary memorials received to the Sac City VFW Post 590, Sac City Volunteer Fire Department, and Sac County EMS in Mike's memory.

“I am shocked and very saddened to learn about Mike's passing. I met him and Jeani in 1978 when I moved to Sac City and over all those years remained friends and enjoyed doing business with them. Mike's mother Grace, who set herself apart as a very smart businessperson, always professional and dressed to the nines, sold us the two homes we bought there. I did not know Mike's father but I knew of his reputation as a businessman and trusted auctioneer. Mike and Jim carried on that tradition and built the companies into the the powerhouses they have become today. Mike was as down-to-earth a guy as you could ever find who would do anything he could to help you if you needed it. I have numerous memories from over those years. He was a community builder as well as respected auctioneer and he will be very much missed. I offer my deepest condolences to his entire family.”
