Jan Woehl, age 92 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by her children. Janice Ann Losure was born on August 9, 1933, to parents Arthur and Frances (Owen) Losure in Sac City. She was welcomed home by an older sister, Jean. Jan was baptized as an infant at the United Methodist Church in Sac City and later confirmed there as well. She graduated from Sac City High School in 1951 and then attended business school in Omaha.
In December of 1952, Jan married the love of her life, William Daryl Woehl, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. The couple lived in Sac City before moving to a farm in Lytton for a while and then moved to a farm outside of Sac City. In 1967, they moved to town into their home on Criss Street where Jan was able to remain until her passing. Jan and Daryl were blessed with four children, Mary, Mike, Susan, and Patricia.
Life asked much of her early on when she lost her husband unexpectedly at the age of fifty. Though she spent many years alone after that, she was never lonely, for her life was rich with family, friendships, and a deep devotion to those around her. Jan was a woman who was strong, sweet, full of grace and who believed in always doing the right thing. She worked hard throughout her life and treasured keeping a tidy and welcoming home.
Jan loved to knit and poured her heart into creating precious knitted items for her family and many friends over the years. Every family member owns a personalized and detailed knitted Christmas stocking. All of those things will forever be cherished by all who received them.
She liked playing cards and was in several card clubs throughout her life. She was also involved in her community as a member of Wa-Tan-Ye, the Red Hats, Loring Auxiliary, and was on the Friends of the Library Board. Jan was also a very active church member who served on the board and for many years was the head of the Women’s Circle.
Jan worked for the Sac City Community School District as a secretary for the principal and superintendent for many years, retiring in 1998. She liked to travel and was able to visit many places, including Japan, Panama, and Disney World in Florida, just to name a few.
Her family meant the world to her, she was so proud of each and every one of them. She always considered herself very fortunate to hold the title great-grandma; she loved all of her grandchildren dearly. An angel food cake for birthdays was her specialty and she was good at sharing her homemade noodles with her kids for them to take home and have on hand in their freezers.
Jan will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Her family would like to thank Care Initiatives Hospice as well as Personal Touch Home Care for the wonderful care and compassion that was given and shown to not only Jan, but all of them as well. Thanks to their care, Jan was able to remain in her home.
Left to cherish her memory include her four children, Mary (Steve) Kennedy of Newton, IA, Mike (Dona) Woehl of Ankeny, IA, Susan Crabb of Sac City, IA, and Patricia (Randy) Wienhold of Newell, IA; grandchildren: Christopher (Dorothy) Kennedy of O’Fallon, MO, Alicia (Mike) McCain of North Liberty, IA, Nicole (Brandon) Sowers of Plattsberg, MO, Jonathan (Chandra) Woehl of Billings, MT, Logan (Vanessa) Woehl of Littleton, CO, Bret (Megan) Crabb of Sac City, IA, Tyler Crabb of Cedar Falls, IA, Andrew (Lauren) Wienhold of Nevada, IA, and Molli (Lucas) Bauer of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren: Ivan, Hudson, Cora, Sullivan, Felicity, Teagan, Harper, Blakely, Monroe, Bridger, Walker, and Peyton; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
