Delores “Dee” Thompson, age 95 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Delores Marie Meister was born on January 20, 1930, to parents Edward and Elizebeth (Heller) Meister, in Sac County on the home place farm. Dee was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA. She attended country school and later graduated from Lake View High School in 1948.
Dee married Roger O’Tool. This union was blessed with four children, Larry, John, Dennis, and Shari. They later divorced. On October 23, 1982, Dee was united in marriage to Merlyn “Shorty” Thompson in Carroll, IA. She worked for many years in hotel management. Dee enjoyed gardening and later canning all of the produce. She and Shorty enjoyed fishing together and going camping. As they got older, they enjoyed spending winters in Florida and Texas. Dee also enjoyed playing cards with Ruth Meister.
Dee loved her family and cherished spending time with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dee is survived by her sons, Larry (Vicki) O’Tool of Arcadia, IA, and Dennis (Cathy) O’Tool of AZ; daughter Shari Winker of Lake View, IA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merlyn “Shorty” Thompson; son John O’Tool; grandson Timothy O’Tool; parents Edward and Elizebeth Meister; brothers Dale, Louis, Darrel, Raymond and James (Mary Ann) Meister; sisters-in-law Ruth Meister, Lillian Meister, and Lois Adams.
