Renate Harker, age 61 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Renate Kay Harker was born on August 17, 1963, to parents Charles and Helga (Glueck) Harker in Sac City. She graduated from Sac City Community High School in 1981.
After high school, Renate attended Iowa Central Community College and obtained her associate’s degree. She worked in Lake View at the A&W restaurant and then at the Country Inn restaurant for many years. She also worked in the redemption/recycling department at the Howard Center in Sac City for twenty-six years. When the redemption center closed, Renate went to work part-time for Green Real Estate in their abstract department. She had other various jobs as well; she liked staying busy. Renate began working as a dispatcher for Sac County in 1996, which is where she retired from after twenty-five years in 2021. Soon after Renate retired, she suffered a massive stroke. After a lot of rehab and hard work, she was able to return home which of course was always her goal.
It’s no secret Renate loved animals, especially her dogs. She also loved watching wildlife in her yard and always kept the feeders full for the birds and squirrels. She was environmentally conscious, loved the outdoors, and had a produce garden every year.
Renate was a Kansas City Chiefs fan, watched a lot of NASCAR on TV, and always stayed up to date in the world of politics. She enjoyed cooking and baking and made goodie platters for friends and coworkers during the holidays. She was a very independent woman who thought nothing of changing the oil in her old mustang by herself as well as figuring out how to do so many other things for herself.
Renate was an appreciative, hard-working, and kind person who thought of and did things for others on a regular basis. She will continue to give even after death because she was a donor. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helga Harker.

We were never very close but since graduating, I have been trying to stay connected to the people in my class. I am sorry to say I was not able to do that with her. “Renate-- i just dont have the words... but I have the memories. We did the normal teeg-age things and oh, how we laughed. We would listen to the best music until your dad would tell us to "turn it down" :) We bean-walked , detasseled, did some cruising and made our big plansl. We went full-barrel ahead and grew up -- drifted apart. But Im so glad I have these memories . This is how I will remember you .. always - Deb”
