Cynthia Mooney, age 83 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. Cynthia Sue Whitehouse was born in Holstein, IA, on June 17, 1941, to parents George and Jessie (Fish) Whitehouse. She was baptized at the Methodist church in Holstein and attended Holstein Elementary School until the third grade at which time she and her family moved to Sac City. Cynthia graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1959.
On August 3, 1959, Cynthia married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Morris Daniel Mooney, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. This union was blessed with three sons, Ron, Greg, and Todd. They raised their family on a farm just outside of Sac City. Cynthia worked at various places throughout her life including Sernett Department Store when she was in high school, Noble Popcorn, Crown Jewelry, Marjo’s, Prudential Life Insurance, was a secretary at the Presbyterian Church, and then worked at Waller Studio.
Cynthia enjoyed vacationing and some of the best she recalled were the trips she and Morris and the boys took to Colorado to go camping. She loved to travel and visited many places including to Europe, the Philippines, Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, and Rome, just to name a few.
Back in their earlier years, Cynthia and Morris enjoyed dancing at various dance halls. Evie, Cynthia’s sister, and Al, Morris’ brother, were married and the four of them did just about everything together. They were all just the best of friends and could be found playing cards at each other’s homes on a regular basis. Their children loved it as it meant seeing their cousins often. She belonged to many card clubs as well.
Cynthia was a HUGE Elvis Presley fan and collected his memorabilia. She and another great friend of hers, Judy Blair, saw him in concert many times. She loved jewelry and had quite a collection of that as well. Of all the things she loved, her family was first and foremost at the very top of her list. She made them a priority, showed them unconditional love and support, and was always there to listen, no matter what. Spending time with family brought her the greatest joy. She was a kind, caring, compassionate, and friendly soul who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
