Donald Richard, age 74 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully with his wife Deborah by his side on January 22, 2025, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Donald Vital Richard was born in Bristol, CT, on May 21, 1950, to parents Vital and Rosa Richard. He grew up in Bristol.
Donald attended many parades with his car decorated with American flags, he was known as the 'Flagman' of Bristol. He worked as a cook throughout his life at various restaurants. In his spare time, he enjoyed putting together small-scale models, watching the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, and watching WWE wrestling on TV. He enjoyed many activities in the nursing home such as bingo and any outside trips such as fishing. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bristol.
Donald married Deborah Richardson on May 15, 1999. Donald and Deb moved to Sac City Iowa in 2020 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Donald was an active member of Faith Bible Church in Sac City. He was strong in his faith in God, and was studying to become a deacon at one time. The one love of his life was Deborah, he worshiped the ground she walked on and they were inseparable.
Donald had a great sense of humor and a whit about himself. He had an answer for everything. He was a caring person who would give you the shirt off his back, literally. The good Lord just needed another angel. May he rest in peace with all of the others who have gone before him. His mom and dad were waiting with open arms to greet him and welcome him home.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Deborah; 4 siblings: Darlene (Frank) Matyoka of Southampton, MA, David (Lisa ) Richard of East Canaan, CT, Dean (Charlene) Martel of Barkhamsted, CT, and Dennis (Susan ) Martel of Barkhamsted, CT,; along with his step-children Kathy and Ann and their spouses and children; several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date for immediate family and burial will be in Conecticut at the convenience of the family.
