Margaret Parker, age 85 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Edith Margaret Ward was born on March 24, 1939, to parents Hallie and Velma (Harris) Ward in Oelwein, IA. She grew up in Buck Creek, IA, and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church there. Her family moved to Fonda, IA, when she was a sophomore in high school. Margaret graduated from Fonda High School in 1957.
On December 6, 1959, Margaret married Robert Parker at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fonda. This union was blessed with three daughters, Kris, Tracy, and Kelly. After they married, they lived in Newell, IA, then moved a few times and ended up in Sac City in 1976 on a farm north of town. In 2023 Margaret and Bob moved off the farm and into a duplex in town.
Margaret’s employment always involved caregiving of some sort. She worked as a CNA at a nursing home in Remsen, IA, for home health in both Cherokee, IA, and Sac City, and then at the Howard Center in Sac City, caring for adults with disabilities. She was so good at her job as she was such a caring, big-hearted individual that treated those she cared for like family.
Back in their younger years, Bob and Margaret enjoyed dancing at the Cobblestone in Storm Lake, IA, as well as Lakewood Ballroom in Lake View, IA. They enjoyed fishing together and going on rides through the countryside. The two of them also enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair as well as the Clay County Fair annually.
Margaret enjoyed baking and was always sure to have her freezer stocked with cookies and her grandkids knew it so to the freezer they’d go when they visited. She liked sewing and made her girls a lot of their clothes when they were younger. Margaret could often be found with her crochet hook and yarn in hand. She made all kinds of things including many beautiful blankets for all of her family members. She liked crafting and made mice that she sold at an area flea market. Margaret had quite the collection of mice, not the real ones of course, rather the cute kind that stayed put on a shelf.
Margaret liked to stay busy whether it be tending to their large garden, canning produce from the garden, milking the cows, or tending to her flower beds every spring and summer, she was not someone who sat still. She was a very organized gal who liked things to be neat. When she wasn’t working or tending to things at home, she enjoyed shopping trips with her girls and loved eating at Applebee’s. She always looked forward to trips to Winthrop, IA, to see Tracy and her children and also enjoyed visiting the Amana Colonies. She was a big supporter of her grandkids’ activities and made it a point to attend them. She was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and really enjoyed watching Caitlin Clark during her time at Iowa. NASCAR was another thing Margaret followed. She not only watched the races on TV, but attended several of them in person. Once in Illinois and another time in Tennessee.
Margaret was a selfless woman who cared for her family in ways they are all grateful for. She was full of patience and understanding, which led to a very close relationship with each of her girls. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of them all. She was for sure the go-to in the family and will be so very missed by them and all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Parker of Sac City, IA; daughters Kris (Blaine) Stoelting of Sac City, IA, Tracy (Dwayne) Manning of Winthrop, IA, and Kelly Murley of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Rob Manning (Crystal Yoder), Jessica Krusey, Eric (Bre) Weber, Adam (Kaitlynn) Murley, and Andrew (Brooke) Murley; great-grandchildren: Emma Weber, Jaxson Krusey, Hartlynn Murley, Braylyn, Everett, Bristol, and Emmett Weber, and Brandon Yoder; sister Betty Witzke of Fonda, IA; sister-in-law Margaret (Bill) Frideres of LaVerne, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by sons-in-law Don Bechler and Chris Murley; parents Hallie and Velma Ward; parents-in-law Bob (Sr.) and Margaret Parker; brother Jack (Laurie) Ward; brothers-in-law Richard Witzke and Frank (Evelyn) Parker; and nephew Robbie Parker.
