Caleb “Bubba” Hoffard, age 20 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. Caleb Eugene Hoffard was born on March 8, 2004, to parents Darrell and Darcy (Neumiller) Hoffard at Loring Hospital in Sac City. He was baptized on May 15, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. He graduated from East Sac County High School with the class of 2023.
Bubba was known as “Our Tough Nut” for so many reasons. He endured health issues from a young age and in 2017, he fought cancer. After being hospitalized and doing rehabilitation for almost 5 months, he came home and continued to fight every day to beat that ugly disease.
Bubba has been an inspiration to many over the years. He tried hard every day to live life to the fullest and to find happiness even during the hard times. One of the many things that will be missed is his laughter and smile which brightened our worlds. His sense of humor made so many laugh. We will cherish those memories forever.
Bubba loved everything with wheels – semis, four-wheelers, Chevy pickups, golf carts, lawnmowers, and racecars. He was proud to call himself the “Crew Chief” for Hoffard Racing and he loved riding in the Hoffard Racing ambulance.
If you knew Bubba, you knew that he had a love for Smokey and the Bandit and the Dukes of Hazzard shows. One of his dreams was to go to Cooter’s Garage in Tennessee and that dream came true in December of 2022; he even got to meet Cletus in person.
Bubba had a special connection with many people. His love of Harley Davidson motorcycles led him to Angie Paulsen of the Loess Hills Harley Davidson dealership in Pacific Junction, IA. The two quickly became buddies and she was always sure to be there for him through his life battles. Another connection Bubba had was the friendship he and Patti Thayer shared. Of course he loved eating at her restaurant, Hutch’s Café, but more than anything, he loved her for being such a supportive, loving person towards him and his family over the years. He loved his Uncle Ben, who was also his Godfather, whom he spent a lot of time with working on things at the shop as well as out at the junkyard. He also had a close relationship with his cousin and Godmother, Melissa. She understood him and showed him so much support. Bubba also adored Gail Eischeid, they had a special bond and he loved hearing her say “love you more” as she would tell him often.
Bubba’s struggles in life didn’t knock him down. He was a determined individual who pushed constantly to do things on his own, regardless of how tough it was. He loved listening to music, collecting pigs, attending races, and riding his bike all over town. After his cancer diagnosis and rehabilitation, the health team asked him to set a goal and asked what he wanted to learn to do again; he answered with riding his bicycle. He achieved that goal and was back to riding his bike all over town again with his music blaring to his heart’s content. Most knew the minute they heard his music that Bubba was near on his bike.
He will be missed dearly by his family, his beloved dogs Herky and Sasha, and all who knew and loved him.
Bubba is survived by his parents, Darrell and Darcy Hoffard of Sac City, IA; brothers Collin Hoffard (fiancée Lexi) of Sheldon, IA, and Mike (Amanda) Brock of Fair Grove, MO; sisters Lacy (Ben) Kischer of Sac City, IA, Leslie (Joe) Heun of Underwood, IA, and Lindsay (Matt) Beveridge of Des Moines, IA; grandfather Don Hoffard of Sac City, IA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herman and Betty Neumiller; paternal grandmother Verlee Hoffard; uncle Danny Hoffard; cousins Jason Lowe and Mason Meyer; niece Sidney Griffor; and his beloved potbelly therapy pig, Harley.
