Ruth Meister, age 92 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  Ruth Margaret Peters was born on June 2, 1932, to parents Derk and Maggie (Bush) Peters in Carroll, IA. She grew up on a farm in Glidden, IA, attended country school, and graduated from Glidden High School.
On October 23, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Dale E. Meister at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Dale was drafted into the United States Army soon after they were married so the two of them moved to Arizona where Dale was stationed. During their time there, Ruth worked on the base doing clerical work.
In April of 1956, Dale was honorably discharged and the couple moved back to Iowa, settling on a farm east of Lake View. They were blessed with two children, Alan and Lora. For forty-five years Ruth helped Dale farm before they moved to town after retiring in 2001. After the kids were grown and out of the house, Ruth went to work at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA, as a dietary aide for eighteen years.
Living on the farm, Ruth was never afraid to get her hands dirty and was always there to dig in and help. She planted a very large garden every spring and canned for days on end every fall. She was such a great cook and baked so many delicious desserts. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, and especially quilting. She made her family members many quilts and afghans over the years. Once she and Dale retired, they enjoyed traveling. Their adventures took them to places like Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, just to name a few. Ruth also enjoyed collecting coffee mugs, playing cards, and was always up for a trip to the casino to play the slots.
Ruth was a woman of deep faith and that was evident. She was a past member of the Alter Society and was a very active Guild member during her time. Her health started declining so she moved to South Dakota to be closer to her family in 2022. Rest assured she is now living in the Lord’s eternal paradise, hand in hand with Dale. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Alan (Mary) Meister of Colton, SD, and Lori Carroll (fiancé Rod Carter) of Whittemore, IA; grandchildren: Amanda McKee, Heidi (Patrick) Moffitt, Josh Carroll, Michele Meister, Brian Carroll, Rebecca Meister, Heather Duin, Jen Symens (fiancé Todd Dishon), Amanda (Travis) Peyton, Brenda (Corey) Huls, Shae, Morgan, and Kyle; great-grandchildren: Trey, Makayla, Isaac, Zach, Nicole, Nathan, Isaiah, Austin, Ethan, Braxton, Anya, Mia, Michael, Matthew, Marshal, Charisma, Alyssa, Ryan, Sarah, Lyndsay, Joshua, Hailey, Abigail, Paisley H., Ashtyn, Paisley, Brilynn, Ariyah, Resnesmee, Jinx, Lucian, and Cyrus; several great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Delores Thompson of Lake View, IA; many nieces, nephews, others extended family members and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Meister; granddaughter Cassie Carroll; parents Derk and Maggie Peters; brother Elmer (Hazel) Peters; brothers-in-law Louis Meister, Darrell Meister, Raymond (Lillian) Meister, Jim (Mary Ann) Meister, and Merlyn “Shorty” Thompson.
