Kathy Feilmeier, age 69 of Early, IA, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Kathleen Marie was born on April 12, 1955, one of four children, to parents Joseph and Elaine (Proost) Feilmeier in Carroll, IA. She grew up in Early where she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the seventh grade. Kathy then attended Crestland Community School where she was active in basketball and softball and was also crowned homecoming queen. She graduated in 1973.
In 1974, Kathy married William “Bill” Mason. This union was blessed with two children, Jill and Justin. They later divorced. Kathy was a homemaker while the kids were growing up. Once they were out of school, she went to work at Loring Hospital in the Housekeeping Department, then at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab and lastly at WEL-Life in Alta, IA.
Kathy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Early where she served on many committees throughout the years as well as being a Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
She made it a point to be active in her community and thoroughly enjoyed helping others. She was a 4H Leader, Girl Scout Leader, and held various offices in the Early Women’s Club. The Early town slogan “Crossroads of the Nation” was Kathy’s idea, yet another thing she leaves behind showing her commitment and pride of the small community she loved so much.
Kathy loved her children dearly and absolutely adored her grandchildren. Spending time with them brought her the greatest joy. She had a large snowman collection and kept herself busy dabbling in all kinds of different crafts over the years. She had a great circle of friends and looked forward to gathering with her ‘Golden Girls’ on a monthly basis.
She was so very loved and will from this day forward be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Jill (Jared) Hemphill of Waukee, IA, and Justin (Lacy) Mason of Odebolt, IA; grandchildren Brayden Hemphill, Maggie and Mia Mason; brothers Ron (Marge) Feilmeier and Rich (Jill) Feilmeier both of Early, IA; sister-in-law Barb Feilmeier of Early, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elaine Feilmeier; brother Roger Feilmeier; and great-niece Avery Eskam.
