Vernon Dale Van Meveren, age 82 of Lake View, Iowa, went to be with his Lord on September 20, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Vern was born on July 31, 1942, in Pipestone County, Minnesota to Harry and Sena (Behrends) Van Meveren. He was the second son in a family of five children. He grew up on a farm attending rural country school, often telling the tale of riding his pony to school. He later attended school in Fulda, Minnesota. Vern’s school days stories, often shared with friends, are full of typical 50’s and 60’s humorous teens’ high jinks! As an adult, he continued his practical jokes that drew friends’ laughter.
As a young adult Vern worked the farmland, always a farmer at heart.  During his lifetime, he lived in Minnesota, Iowa, and Texas. He relocated to Lake View in 1960 to become an employee of Hanson Silo Company. Vern found his soulmate and married Karen Frisbie in 1963. One son, Michael Paul Van Meveren, was born to this union.
Vern started building silos, progressed to repairing the unloaders and became a knowledgeable salesman who was acquainted with hundreds of farmers. In 1982, he and a partner purchased the silo dealership for Iowa and Nebraska. These silos can be found peppered around several states.
An entrepreneur, Vern saw a need for storage buildings and introduced storage sheds to our area. He was a versatile man – carpenter and electrician, who displayed good architectural sense when he remodeled several of his homes.
Active in his Lake View community, Vern served on the city council and was a loyal member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Both Vernon and Karen were involved in any and all of their son Michael’s activities as he grew into adulthood.
A favorite pastime was traveling throughout the United States in a motor home. They later purchased a home in Alamo, Texas and became snowbirds for 20 years.
Vern loved fishing all the way from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, watching the Minnesota Vikings, golfing, playing cards (hosting Monday night card games) and socializing with friends. Since moving to their park side home in 2018, Vern spent many hours on his deck watching the lake and park activities including his squirrels and birds.
From classic cars to late model pickup trucks, motorcycles to golf carts, Vern was interested in any vehicle that was road worthy. He especially enjoyed giving rides in his convertibles.
Left to share family memories of Vern are his wife, Karen; son Michael; sisters Linda Bultman of Fulda, MN, and Anna May Fritz of Marshall, MN; sisters-in-law Bonnie Reida of Lincoln, NE, Janet Frisbie of Lake View, and Earlene Frisbie of Carroll, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sena Van Meveren; parents-in-law Lee and Ina Frisbie; brother LeRoy Van Meveren; sister Harriet (Jerry) Breitbarth; brothers-in-law Marlyn Bultman, Richard Fritz, Jim Frisbie, and Jerry Frisbie; sisters-in-law Verla (Jim) Johnston, Norma (Darrel) Obman, Judy (Ken) Bromley; and several nieces and nephews.
