Trudy Robeson, age 76 of Sergeant Bluff, IA, formerly of Lake View, IA, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Pioneer Valley Living & Rehab in Sergeant Bluff. Trudy Kay Hawks was born on January 7, 1948, to parents Don and Gladys (Luckow) Hawks in Carroll, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. Trudy grew up in Lake View and graduated from Lake View-Auburn High School in 1966. She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Sioux City and graduated in 1968 with her Registered Nurse degree.

On August 10, 1968, Trudy married Gary Robeson. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Heidy. They later divorced.

Trudy had a servant’s heart and was called to be a mother, grandmother, and nurse. She was awarded a national Daisy Award for her excellence in nursing in October 2017. She worked at several hospitals including St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Orange City Municipal Hospital in Orange City, and was a travel nurse for many years working in Wisconsin, Oregon, Nebraska and Rhode Island. Trudy’s last nursing job was at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, from which she retired in 2018.

Trudy loved her family and spending time with them brought her a tremendous amount of joy. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan in the bleachers, as she loved attending their sporting events. And, when she was called upon to care for her grand dogs, Lucy and Gunnar, she never hesitated. Trudy is lovingly missed by her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Trudy enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crafting. She loved to bake, especially for friends and family during the holidays. She and her daughter, Heidy, enjoyed making handcrafted earrings together after she retired.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Kelly (Jim) Salker and Heidy Robeson both of Sergeant Bluff, IA; grandchildren Cole Salker of Dallas, TX, Cody Salker of Pawtucket, RI, and Emma Salker of Sergeant Bluff, IA; and other extended family members and friends.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Gladys Hawks; brother David (Deb) Hawks; and infant brother Charles Hawks.

“Trudy was a shining light. My family lived just 1.4 mile from where she grew up on the farm in Lake View, Iowa. We have many wonderful memories of Trudy and David having fun with me and my sister and brothers in the 1950's and 1960's. She will be warmly remembered for years to come.”

“My sympathies to Trudy's friends and family. Trudy and David were our neighbors out in the country growing up in rural Lake View, IA. As kids we all rode the bus together, our families celebrated many 4th of Julys together and other Holidays and we enjoyed our relationship with her and her family. Later in life when my Brother had an accident far from home it gave me great comfort to learn that Trudy was a nurse taking care of him in the Hospital. It was as if she was still an extended member of our family and much appreciated. I'm so sorry for your loss. ”
