With heavy hearts, we gather to remember and honor the life of Ann, whose passing leaves a void in her family that words can scarcely fill. Ann M. Galbraith, age 90 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024. She had told many of us that she was past her expiration date, so it was time to go.

Ann Marie Linquist was born on December 12, 1933, to parents Edwin and Mathilda (Kreft) Linquist near Rockwell City, IA.  She was baptized on February 18, 1934, at St. Peter Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Emanuel - St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lytton, Iowa.  Ann attended country school just down the road from her family farm northwest of Lytton.  One of her fondest memories was when her brother Lawrence would take her to and from school on his horse. She attended Lytton High School. She continued her education at Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, IA and worked in several positions in downtown Sac City, including Farmers Lumber Company for a number of years.

On April 8, 1961, Ann married James (Jim) Allan Galbraith at the Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, IA. This union was blessed with two children, Robert and Mary. Ann and Jim made their home in Sac City where they raised their family on their farm east of town.

Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sac City for over 60 years, she volunteered in many roles, teaching Sunday school, serving as a Deacon and Elder.  She volunteered her time and created many baked goods and salads when she was called to do so.  She was always willing to work behind the scenes serving cookies, meals and coffee.

Ann loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. They brought her great joy. She was an avid reader, always interested in current events, a cross word puzzle aficionado and true penny pincher, always reminding us that Rob’s golf polo from 1986 still worked fine to wear around the house. She was a Jeopardy game show super fan and loved a good 20/20 or 48 hours episode.

She was quick to point out that “This too shall pass”. Sometimes it passed like a kidney stone, but she was right. No matter what happened, it would either become a memory or a lesson learned or maybe even both. Her type A personality kept an immaculate home and farm and she held us all to the highest standard when getting ready for church each week, for which we were always a half hour early.  We will miss her wit and quick smirk at a joke and her willingness to always be available for us, no matter what.

Survivors include son Rob Galbraith of Sac City; daughter Mary (Benny) Gaffney of Altoona, IA; grandchildren: Nikki (Riley) Auna of Fridley, MN, Alexandra Galbraith of Minneapolis, MN, Henry, Avery and Sloane Gaffney of Altoona, IA; great-grandchildren Brynn, Grant and Josie Auna; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Galbraith; parents Edwin and Mathilda Linquist; parents-in-law Robert and Florence Galbraith; siblings Lawrence (Doneta) Linquist and Ruth Linquist; and in-laws: Arlene (Leo) Willadson, Gerald (JoAnn) Galbraith, Merle (Phyllis) Galbraith, LeRoy (Ruth) Galbraith, and Ruth Ellen (Merlyn) Smith.
