Dale Vogel, age 88 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, surrounded by his family. Dale Edward Vogel was born on May 1, 1935, the third child of four, to parents Paul and Leona (Hunziker) Vogel at their home in rural Wall Lake. He grew up on a farm and attended country school before attending Wall Lake High School. Dale graduated in 1953 and then attended Iowa State University for a short time.
On December 29, 1956, Dale married Elaine Rose Buckingham at Peace Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Kellie. They began their married life living in Sac City, IA, where Dale worked for Noble Manufacturing. He then was a salesman in the agriculture industry for the better part of 30 years, traveling around the Midwest with his job. Dale and Elaine enjoyed dancing and always looked forward to dances held at area dancehalls. The two of them also enjoyed playing cards with other couples on a regular basis. Dale liked to golf and was a member of the Jaycees. In his later years, he thoroughly enjoyed the Vogel Family Reunions every two years and visiting with his large extended family.
In 1981, a year after Elaine sadly passed away, Dale moved to Nevada, IA, where he would remain until moving to Lake View in 2010 and in 2020 to Wall Lake.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan who could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere about his beloved Hawkeyes. Dale owned the Armstrong House in Lake View, where he enjoyed hosting many people over the years.
Dale didn’t like to be idle. He could always find something to do. He could fix almost anything. He worked in maintenance for the Ames Community School District before officially retiring in 2010. He renovated many homes for people over the years and once his two grandsons were old enough to join him, he took them along to help. Dale thought the world of his grandchildren and enjoyed having them over to stay on the weekends. He taught them about so many different things; so many memories were made that will be carried with them forever.
Dale loved his family more than anything and it showed. He made it a point to spend his spare time with them, always. He was a true family man who would do anything for any of his loved ones. They will miss him dearly as will all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly (Rich) Richmond of Des Moines, IA, and Kellie (Steve) DeLawyer of Nevada, IA; grandchildren Brandon Richmond of Des Moines, IA, and Andrew (fiancée Ashley) DeLawyer of Boone, IA; great-grandchildren Jace Richmond, Maxxamos DeLawyer and Shae Richmond; sister Barbara (Carl) Mosen of Newport Beach, CA; sister-in-law Patricia Vogel of Grand Island, NE; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
