Jerry Buckley, age 80 of Lytton, IA, passed away on Friday, Janury 5, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA. Jerry Lee Buckley was born on September 2, 1943, to parents Dana and Mildred (Van Horn) Buckley in Sac City, IA. He grew up in Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1962.

In November of 1965, Jerry married Stephanie “Steve” Theresa Fitzgerald. This union was blessed with four children, Amy, Greg, Kirk, and Derek. Together they raised their family in Lytton. Jerry worked for many years at Noble Manufacturing in Sac City before starting his own lawn care service. Jerry took care of many lawns in the area for many years before retiring at the age of sixty-five.

If you knew Jerry, you knew he wasn’t shy. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone at any time. He enjoyed wheeling and dealing…almost as much as a cold Coors Light. When he wasn’t working you could find him watching his ‘wrastling’ aka WWE on television. He was in all of his glory the time Greg took him to a live match. He absolutely loved it!

Above all, Jerry loved his family. Spending time with them and traveling to watch his grandchildren’s events always brought a smile to his face. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children, Amy (Alan) Kearnes of St. Joseph, MO, Greg (Julie) Buckley of Elm Springs, AR, Kirk Buckley of Sioux City, IA, and Derek Buckley of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren: Zachary Brayton of Waterloo, IA, Megan Brayton (Tony Souvannasone) of Le Center, MN, Taylor (Courtney) Buckley of Sioux City, IA, Noah (Taylor) Buckley of Sioux City, IA, Samuel Buckley of Sioux City, IA, Tia, Mali, and Liam Buckley all of Elm Springs, AR, Jaden Buckley of IA, Carter (McKenzie) Buckley of Lincoln, NE, and Brianna Buckley of IA; great-grandchildren Navy Buckley and Delilah Hibben; sister Nancy Spanjer of Lake View, IA; many other extended family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie Buckley (2017); parents Dana and Mildred Buckley; sister Bev Buckley; and infant sister Anne Buckley.

“Just heard yesterday that one of my old friends Jerry had passed away. I hadnt seen him for probably 50 years until a couple of years ago when John Hamm and I met up with him and Jerry Staton at a resturant in Sac. I havent lived in Sac for almost 60 years but still think of it as home. It is so hard to lose your old friends. Kenny Vauble,Bob Arends wife Nancy and now Jerry. Mortality seems so much closer when you lose old friends.”

“Jerry's father (Dana) and my father (Cliff) were best friends for their entire lives so, over the years, our families had many celebrations together. I miss those great days of yesteryear. Condolences to all of Jerry's loved ones. Now he and Steve (we all called Steph, Steve) are back together again. Heaven will be even happier now that they are there together.”

“Jerry was a very good friend of mine. We grew up together and spent a lot of time together as teenagers. Last time I seen Jerry a couple years ago we talked and laughed and laughed some more.. I haven't lived in sac city for 50 years.. I will never forget the good times we had as kids.”

“I was sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. Will miss him driving his grey van around the streets of Lytton & he always took time to stop and chat. . I got to know Steph & Jerry when I was with Mom at the bank& Jerry &Steph were cleaning. Such a nice happy couple. Later on he shared on how much he missed Stephanie after she passed away. “Jerry and Stephanie were a part of Lytton all of my growing up years. They had a love for each other and we're a couple who kept to themselves but loved their family to the moon and back. I worked with Stephanie and her heart was big and true. She never complained and wanted more than what her and Jerry could afford. Jerry was outspoken to a degree but he was a lonely soul after losing Steve,he would stop and talk to anyone who would listen. People need people and we all have a longing to belong and meaning to to want to be loved and cared about. Jerry had his moments but he was human and God knew his struggles and saw the suffering and took him home to be with Stephanie. God bless,love surround the family and many prayers for times ahead.”
