Rod Drost, age 65 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 27, 2023. Rodney Eugene Drost was born on October 14, 1958, in Sac City, IA, to parents Virgil and Gertrude (Morenz) Drost. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, IA, and also confirmed there. Rod, along with his five siblings, grew up on a farm outside of Wall Lake.  He attended grade school in Auburn, IA, and graduated with the class of 1977 from Lake View Auburn High School.
   A
t the age of sixteen, Rod began working for Quirk Farms. He spent his time working and raising cattle as well as tending to the rest of the farming operation.
On September 16th, 1983, Rod was united in marriage to Lisa Schroeder at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, IA.  This union was blessed with four children, Brittany, Brandi, Matthew and Rachel.
In 1991, Rod became part owner of Albrecht Oil and Feed and acquired full ownership in the early 2000’s. He and Lisa worked side by side in the business right up until the day he passed away.  His hard work ethic was a wonderful example to his kids and something they continue to appreciate and are proud to exemplify in their own lives.  Rod carried on his early love of farming into his later years by gardening.  He had multiple gardens that kept him busy; tending to them gave him a great sense of relaxation and enjoyment.  He was proud of his gardens and often loved to share how big his potatoes, onions, carrots, and cabbage grew.  It wasn’t uncommon for one to pull in to fill up with gas and leave with not only a full tank, but also a quick oil check, a clean windshield, and a bag of fresh produce from his gardens.
When Rod wasn’t working, which was rare, his favorite times were spent on trips to Florida, golfing, tidying up his garage and entertaining in it.  He enjoyed hosting friends to watch and cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs, Iowa State Cyclones, and Chicago Cubs.  He was great at remembering things from important dates and birthdays to lyrics of a song.  Rod had a knack for one-liners and could often be heard repeating one of his signature phrases.
Rod was a proud business owner who believed in being an active member of his community. He could be found volunteering at events around town and always helped out where needed. From washing dishes at church dinners, mowing yards in town, to being the ‘master griller’ for many groups and organizations, he was always willing to lend his hands and “expert” advice.  Along with being active in his community, Rod had a strong faith that started when he was young being raised in the Lutheran church.  When he married Lisa he was confirmed into the Catholic Church, where his faith continued to be a focal point. He served as a Eucharistic minister, cantor, choir member, and was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree.
Rod was a man who loved and appreciated his wife and was always so proud of his children. Gaining the title of Grandpa made him even more proud. To him, nothing beat spending time with his grandchildren whom he adored. They got to be his special “co-workers” at the station. They provided him with much enjoyment and were often the source of his signature laugh. His smile and friendship will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rod leaves behind his wife, Lisa Drost of Wall Lake, IA; children,  Brittany (Dylan) Bettin of Odebolt, IA, Brandi (Patrick) Redenius of Ida Grove, IA, Matthew (Amanda) Drost of Wall Lake, IA, and Rachel Drost of Wall Lake, IA; mother Gertrude Drost of Lake View, IA; brothers Randy (Julie) Drost, Wes (Kim) Drost, and Doug (Margaret) Drost; sisters Monica (Alan) Pudenz and Brenda (Mike) Bergman; mother-in-law Mary Schroeder; brother-in-law Richard (Melody) Schroeder; sisters-in-law: Linda Bush, Donna Schroeder, Marg (Rick) Powers, Diane Schroeder, and Cathy (Lynn) Middleton; grandchildren: Kennedy and Karver Bettin, Tinley and Ren Redenius, Danika and Cannon Drost; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Drost; father-in-law Clayton Schroeder; brothers-in-law John Schroeder, Tom Schroeder, and Warren Bush.

“I would drive up to the pump. The bell would ring, and before I knew it Rod was pumping gas. Without hesitation, he would often check the oil and tires too. Many times, he volunteered to drive my mom's car home after a repair. Most importantly, it included a sincere and fun conversation with a big smile. Rod made a difference. We appreciated his consistency and genuineness - always there for us. My condolences to Rod's beloved family and community. ”
