Randy Platt, age 65 of Early, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at UnityPoint Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by his loved ones. Randall Lee Platt was born on July 27, 1958, one of thirteen children, to parents James and Rita (Heinrichs) Platt in Sac City, IA. He grew up Early attending the Crestland Schools. Randy graduated from Crestland High School with the class of 1976. He then attended a trade school to become an Electrician.
Randy joined the United States Army on May 1, 1981, and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1981. After returning home he worked various jobs including helping area hog farmers, he assisted a crop dusting company, and most recently he worked at the dry ice factory in Galva, IA.
In June of 1999, Randy married Patricia Titus in a little country church just north of Early. They lived in Early and later moved to Sac City for a few years and then back to Early. The couple later divorced but remained close friends.
Randy was an artist and dabbled in many types of mediums. He was an amazing sketcher, glass etcher, and even poet. He was always a huge fan of music and played the drums throughout high school. He was also in a band with his brothers named Stone Mountain for several years. Randy enjoyed hunting and fishing; he loved being outside.
Randy loved spending time with his family. While he had no children of his own, his nephew Nahshon was like a son to him. Later came Nahshon’s children who were like grandchildren to Randy. He loved receiving the cards and pictures they drew for him but loved their visits even more. Randy was known for his great sense of humor, always ready to give the people around him a hard time. He liked bringing smiles to people’s faces. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Pat Platt of Early, IA; siblings: Robert (Nancy) Platt, Donald (Sheryl) Platt, Richard Platt, Tom (Lynn) Platt, Judy Warren, Connie (Curt) Bronnenberg, Shirley Stadler, and Lois Carmen; sister-in-law Virginia Platt; special nephew Nahshon (Danielle) Platt and their children Briah, Carter, Uriah, Braven, and Marilyn; stepdaughter Toni Westbay; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rita Platt; siblings James Platt, John Platt, Janet Lightfoot, and Marilyn Platt; and brother-in-law Ronald Warren.
