Eric Strauss, age 50 of Fonda, IA, passed away on July 20, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Eric Wayne Strauss was born on September 12, 1972, to parents Richard and Susan (Freeman) Strauss in Storm Lake, IA. He grew up in Badger, IA, and attended school in Fort Dodge. Eric finished high school in Newell-Fonda graduating with the class of 1991. After graduation he attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
Eric started driving truck right out of college and would continue to do this for the rest of his life, trucking all across the country for Wells Trucking and Ellerbrock trucking, to name a few. Most recently, he was working at New Coop in Pomeroy, IA. On May 2, 1995, Eric was blessed with a daughter, Morgan Ann. She was his pride and joy from that moment on.
When not working Eric kept himself busy doing so many things. He loved his motorcycles and raced motocross for many years acquiring several trophies. He followed NASCAR pretty close and enjoyed attending races. He liked four-wheeling as well as quiet time with a fishing pole in his hand. His dog Abby was always by his side and together they spent a lot of time at the Fonda pit. Eric was a drummer and played in several bands over the years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and could play a great game of golf. Eric enjoyed being outdoors doing all of these things as well as hunting deer and pheasant. As a father, Eric always included Morgan in all of the above. He told her if she wanted to hang out she’d have to learn everything and be able to keep up with the boys and she did just that! From a very young age Morgan knew exactly what a clutch and throttle was. He and Morgan took many trips on his motorcycle to eat at Taco Tico in Fort Dodge and she made many long haul trips with him in his semi. Eric liked having company while on the road so Granny rode shotgun for many of his trips across the U.S. as well. Playing poker was another thing he enjoyed doing and played a lot of it with his dad, brother, and yes, even taught Morgan how to keep a straight poker face. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughter, Morgan Strauss of Okoboji, IA; siblings Tony (Katie) Strauss of Early, IA, and Kelly Kay (Jeff) Kreft of Sac City, IA; nephew Mitchell Strauss of Early, IA; his dog King; many extended family members and friends.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Susan Freeman Strauss and Richard Strauss; grandparents Raymond and Helen Strauss and Wayne and Virginia Freeman; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
