Joan Simpson was born on October 20, 1929, in Denison, IA, to Byron and Marie (Bartels) Schwitzer. She passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the age of 93 at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA.

   Joan and her family lived in Denison until 1939 when they moved to Sac City. She graduated from Sac City High School in 1948.   

   On August 22, 1948, Joan married Jack Simpson. To this union five children were born. Their second child, Vicki Marie, was born in 1951 and passed away in 1953. Their youngest son John passed away in 2001. Joan and Jack operated a retail store in Odebolt, IA, for 25 years. Joan also worked at United Bank of Iowa in Odebolt. She enjoyed a variety of activities including playing Bridge, golfing, sewing, knitting, puzzles, reading, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a member of the PEO sisterhood and American Legion Auxiliary. 

   For several years following retirement, Joan and Jack enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ, and traveling.  They especially enjoyed time with family, children, and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

   Those remaining to mourn Joan’s passing include her children, Tom (Mary Kay) Simpson of CO, Greg Simpson of Salinas, KS, Deborah (Doug) Haase of Denison, IA; two sisters Jean Ellis of Denison, IA, and Mary Weresh of Atlantic, IA; eight grandchildren:  Jessica, Kristin, Emily, Brandy, Wade, Colby, Emma and Jack; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many other extended family members and friends.
