Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday, prior to the service from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Cory Grove Cemetery in rural Sac City. Kathy passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Park View Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family.
Kathy Ann McBride was born on January 16, 1953, in Fort Dodge, IA, to parents Dale and Dorothy (Krantz) McBride. She grew up as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City where she was baptized and confirmed. Kathy attended Sac City Elementary School and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1971.
On April 30, 1977, Kathy was united in marriage to Merle Kuehl at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. This union was blessed with a son, Chad. Merle had two children, Vicki and Mike, who Kathy was proud to call her own as well.
Kathy worked most of her life as a bookkeeper. First at Otis Schultz’s service station in Sac City, and then from 1988-2013, at Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet. Kathy retired in 2013 after suffering a stroke.
Kathy enjoyed many things in life, but nothing was more important to her than spending time with her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. Being called grandma made her heart so happy! She was a hard-working provider who was always there for her family and friends. She enjoyed following Chad’s sporting events in high school and later her grandkids’ activities. She also enjoyed container gardening, reading, and cross stitching. She bowled on women’s league for several years.
Together, Kathy and Merle enjoyed camping and canoeing with their friends and family. They also followed NASCAR pretty closely and attended several races in Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Kathy was a great cook and even better baker. She was known to make all kinds of cookies and candies every year for the holidays. Everyone always looked forward to eating all of the goodies she made.
If you knew Kathy, you knew she had a soft, generous heart….regardless of ‘the look’ you may have received. She would do anything for those she knew and loved. She got together almost daily with her circle of friends and always enjoyed their company while having a few beers.
She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Rest assured she is now pain-free, living in God’s beautiful paradise, holding her precious baby girl again.
Kathy is survived by her children, Chad (Jodi) Kuehl of Boone, IA, Vicki (Mike) Bertrand of Sioux City, IA, and Mike (Tina) Kuehl of Queen Creek, AZ; siblings Kenneth “Diamond” (Devi) McBride of Sac City, IA, Sharon (Rick) Blaha of Bellevue, NE, and Karol (Eric) Juhl of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Kaylee Kuehl, Harper Kuehl, Austin Norton, Lauryn Norton, Bailey Kuehl, Gavin Kuehl, and Abby Kuehl; great-grandson Jaxon Norton; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Dorothy McBride; husband Merle Kuehl; infant daughter Holly Lynn; son-in-law Tom Norton; and special friend Dennis Weisenborn.
