Roger Duane Petersen “WeWe”, age 84 of Lake View, IA, passed away at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA, on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Roger was born on November 24, 1938, in Carroll, IA, to parents Hugo and Esther (Kroeger) Petersen. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, IA, and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City. He attended schools in Audubon, Carroll, and Sac counties before beginning work with a farmer. Roger was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.
On June 1, 1958, Roger was united in marriage to Wilma Christine Clausen at the Odebolt Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with five children, Patricia, Carolyn, Marsha, Duane and Becky. Roger farmed land just east of Lake View. He worked at Mid-State Implement prior to becoming a self-employed carpenter in the construction partnership of Clausen (William and Joan) and Petersen Construction for numerous years before transitioning to Petersen Construction. Roger earned his nickname “WeWe”, while foreman of a construction crew. Roger and Wilma owned residential rental properties for many years.
Roger enjoyed farming and driving his Farmall tractor in tractor rides. He collected scale model farm machinery and coins. He liked attending Iowa State Cyclone basketball games with his wife, Wilma. Roger also enjoyed playing lottery scratch tickets and was an avid euchre card player. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Carolyn (Merlen) Noess of Sac City, IA, Marsha (Michael) Kephart of Carlisle, IA, Duane Petersen of Lake View, IA, and Becky Venneman of Ames, IA; eight grandchildren: Heather (Thomas) Herzog, Jennifer Richardson, Owen Richardson, Eric Noess, Amy Noess, Kyle (Alexis) Kephart, Marissa (Ben) Vance, and Megan Venneman; five great-grandchildren: Emersyn Herzog, Aria Richardson, Connor Noess, Analisea and Simon Patterson. Other survivors include his brothers: Alton Petersen and Gary Petersen both of SC, Steven (Linda) Petersen of FL, and Dale (Ann) Petersen of Sergeant Bluff, IA; sisters in-law Dorothy Petersen of Urbandale, IA, and Charlotte (Gerald) Tripp of Schaller, IA; brother-in-law William (Joan) Clausen of Lake View, IA; many other extended family members and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Esther Petersen; wife Wilma Petersen; daughter and son-in-law Patricia (Mitchell) Richardson; sister Ruth Jones; brother Eugene Petersen; and sister-in-law Marilyn Petersen.
The family would like to thank Roger’s care providers for their compassionate care and the kindness shown during the time of his illnesses and passing.
