Paul Lightfoot, age 58 of Bayard, IA, passed away at his home on Monday, March 20, 2023. Paul Daniel Lightfoot was born on June 22, 1964, in Prescott, AZ, to parents Dale and Zelda (Kitzman) Lightfoot. He was raised and attended school in Manson, IA. He grew up on a farm and during his childhood, milked A LOT of cows. This was something he would often tell stories about to his children and grandchildren. Paul was also quite active in FFA during school. He graduated from Manson High School with the Class of 1984. After graduating, Paul immediately started working in the trucking business which he ended up doing for the rest of his life as well as helping area farmers during
harvest every year.
In 1984, Paul married Judy Dagner. This union was blessed with two children, James and Paula. Paul and Judy later divorced. In 1990, Paul married Janet Platt. This union was blessed with two children, Kendra and Kelsey. Paul and Janet later divorced. Paul loved trucking. He liked being on the road and getting to see the states from coast to coast. He kept busy in his free time by spending time with his children and grandchildren. They all meant the world to him.
Paul and his family went on many camping trips over the years. This is something his kids will always have fond memories of. He liked the outdoors and was a Boy Scout leader when his son was a member. He liked tinkering on things and was quite good at fixing just about anything but especially enjoyed working on cars. When he was younger he raced Figure 8 cars. He liked watching Old Westerns on TV and was always up for a good day of fishing or deer hunting. Paul played dart-ball on a league through his church and helped chop trees with his pastor. Something he always looked forward to was hauling tractors for the Farmall Promenade Square Dancing Tractors out of Nemaha, IA. That group was good at putting a smile on people’s faces, especially his, because for him it meant doing what he loved, driving a semi and getting to be surrounded by a bunch of red tractors and people that put on a great show.
Most recently, Paul worked for Hatch Trucking and Sara Lee Foods. He retired in 2016 due to health issues. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory include his father, Dale Lightfoot of Fort Dodge, IA; children: James Lightfoot of IA, Paula Bradfeild (Curt Manson) of Strawberry Point, IA, Kendra Lightfoot (Dalton Lewis) of Emmetsburg, IA, and Kelsey Hickerson (Andy Clemons) of Bayard, IA; grandchildren: Tayje, Kolton, and Dominick; Jayden, Jagger, and Kaylee; Remi; Gaje, Zackariah, Lexus, and William; brothers Alan Lightfoot of Bagley, IA, and Lynn Lightfoot of Des Moines, IA; sister Clariann Lightfoot of Lake View, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Zelda Rae Lightfoot; grandparents Adolf and Birdie Kitzman and Lowell and Dorothy Lightfoot; brother Wayne Lightfoot; and grandson Dathan Lightfoot.
