Sheryl Gerdes, age 72 of Lake View, IA, passed away at her home on Monday, January 30, 2023. Sheryl Ann Gerdes was born on November 12, 1950, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA, to parents Arnold and Delores (Poynter) Gerdes. She grew up in Lake View, attended grade school there, and graduated from Lake View-Auburn High School with the class of 1969.
Sheryl married Robert Uren in 1969. Robert was drafted and later enlisted into the United States Army which took both he and Sheryl to Germany where they lived for two years.  The couple was blessed with two children, Jamie and Ramie. They resided in Odebolt, IA, and Sheryl was able to stay at home to raise the children. The couple would later divorce and Sheryl then moved to Cherokee, IA, where she lived from 1988-2004 before returning to her hometown of Lake View.
After the kids were grown and out on their own, Sheryl worked in retail sales, including Walmart for several years. She loved watching old westerns on TV, especially if they starred John Wayne. She rooted for the Minnesota Vikings and loved watching the games on TV with her family and grandchildren. Sheryl loved garage sale shopping as she always loved finding a great bargain. She got to be pretty good with video chatting and would often do so with her grandkids. She will always be remembered for her playful banter and infectious laugh.
The verse ‘Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.’ is most certainly true as all who knew and loved Sheryl are deeply saddened by her passing. Rest assured she is looking down from up above in God’s beautiful paradise, still loving, still smiling, and still caring for each and every one of those she held dear in her heart.
Left to cherish Sheryl’s memory include her children, Jamie (Andrea) Uren of Sac City, IA, and Ramie Uren of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Dalton and Aubrey Uren of Sac City, IA, and Emerson, Braxton, and Hadalyn Uren of Omaha, NE; sisters Mary (Gary) Bogue of Lake View, IA, and Brenda (David) Snyder of Lake View, IA; aunt Eileen Poynter of MN; uncles Wes (Sharon) Poynter of MN and Kenneth Gerdes of CO; longtime friend Donna Schmidtke of Lake View, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold “Pete” and Delores Gerdes; brothers John and Shane Gerdes; and an aunt that was very dear to her, Wanda Cestnik.
