Peggy Niles, age 80 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Peggy Marie Niles was born on a farm just outside of Sac City on July 13, 1942, to parents Fred and Marjorie (Longman) Hass. She grew up on the farm and attended country school through 8th grade. Peggy then attended Sac City High School, graduating with the class of 1960.

On August 27, 1960, Peggy was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Niles at the Baptist Church parsonage in Sac City. This union was blessed with three sons: Mike, Greg, and Kevin. The couple raised their family in Sac City where Peggy was employed at Nobles and later at Citizens Bank in serving as secretary for the bank president for the next twenty-five years, a job she really enjoyed.

Peggy was involved in her community by serving as a member of Wa-Tan-Ye for over 30 years. She held many positions over the years and never missed going to the annual convention. She served as club president seven times as well as secretary and treasurer. Peggy served as the secretary for the National Association Board for 20 years. She was a cancer survivor and supported the local Relay for Life group by being an active member for over 14 years. Her duties included collecting, recording,  mailing donations to corporate, taking donations at the door the day of Relay and greeting people as they came to the event.  Peggy helped as much as she could in other areas of Relay, but her main title was Accounting Chair. She dedicated hundreds of volunteer hours to the Sac Community and was very passionate about helping others.  Peggy enjoyed gardening and reading in her spare time and she also liked to bake for Jerry. She loved her family above all and was always the happiest when she was able to spend time with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for her friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 62 years, Jerry Niles of Sac City, IA; children Mike Niles of Excelsior Springs, MO, Greg Niles of Carrollton, TX, and Kevin Niles (special friend Nancy Clabaugh) of Webster City, IA; brother Russell (Cathie) Hass of Sac City, IA; sister-in-law Kitty Hass of Castle Pines, CO; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marjorie Hass; sisters, Betty (Julius) Eberhard and Shirley (Wilbur) Frickson; and brother Jim Hass.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to: Relay for Life c/o American Cancer Society.
