Barb Jessen, age 75 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Odebolt Specialty Care Center in Odebolt, IA. Barbara Ann Peterson was born on November 13, 1947, in Laurens, IA, to parents Robert and Elda (Peitz) Peterson. Her family then moved to Albert City, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1966. After graduation she went to Taylor Beauty School in LeMars.
Barb married in 1970, and then moved to Sac City. She and her husband later divorced. Barb was blessed with three children: Melissa, Ryan, and Melanie. She worked as a CNA and in the laundry dept. at different nursing homes before working at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Barb retired after working at Park View for approximately thirty years at the age of seventy.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, doing number puzzles, collecting snowmen, and watching television and YouTube videos. She adored her faithful four-pawed companion, Izzy. Barb enjoyed visiting and going to coffee at Hutch’s with her friend and coworker, Pam. More than anything though, she cherished time spent with her family. Her kids and grandkids meant the world to her. She was very proud of each and every one of them. We mustn’t forget her specialty—SPAM burgers—something her kids and grandkids will continue to make and enjoy. Barb will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, now free of all pain, in God’s beautiful paradise.
Survivors include her children: Melissa Senecaut of Des Moines, IA, Ryan (Donna) Jessen of Wall Lake, IA, and Melanie (Bob) Babe of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Travis Hansen of Moberly, MO, Makayla Senecaut of Des Moines, IA, Jaden Senecaut of Des Moines, IA, Jackson Senecaut of Des Moines, IA, Cassidy Jessen of Westminster MD, Maxwel Jessen of Iowa City, IA, Carter Babe of Fort Dodge, IA, and Cole Babe of Storm Lake, IA; sister Debra (Dwight) Abel of Spencer, IA; brother Gary (Tracy) Peterson of Clear Lake, IA; and aunt Vi Rukes of Spencer, IA; many other extended family members and friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elda Peterson; and her grandmother Josephine Halder.

“I have known Barb for almost 40 years. I was at each one of her kids weddings. Barb called me awhile back and told me she was in the nursing home. Wanted to go see her and get on one last game of cards. I never got the chance. My sympathies to the family. We will try to make her remembrance. ”
