Bob Higgins, age 89 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Hathaway Hills in Greenville, MI. Robert Gene Higgins was born on July 10, 1933, to parents Bernard and Sylvia (Hawkins) Higgins in Lake View, IA. He was baptized on October 30, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Sac City, and confirmed on May 25, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City. He grew up in both Lake View and Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School.
On December 20, 1953, Bob married Shirley Bundt in Wall Lake, IA. This union was blessed with four children: Richard, Sandy, Susan, and Leann. Bob served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 as a Paratrooper Instructor during the Korean War. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a PRCHT Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Bob and Shirley raised their family in Sac City where Bob worked various jobs including a car salesman, vacuum salesman, Noble Manufacturing, a janitor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and a groundskeeper/support staff at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home for many years. He also had his own saw and tool sharpening business for many years. He took great pride in his work and was a workaholic, always wanting to stay busy. In 2013, at the age of eighty, Bob decided to retire.
Bob liked fishing back in the day and also liked to hunt. He played league bowling for many years and was on the dart team at church. His sweet grin and loving heart will always be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughter Leann (Kevin) Petersen of Greenville, MI; grandchildren: Amber (Kevin) Christ, Mike Auen, Kristi Terpstra, Erica (Kyle) Janes, Tanner Morris, Brandi Blum, Nicole Blum, Stephanie Blum, Britney (Jacob) Hardin, and Alec Petersen; great-grandchildren: Jordan Degner, Jaelyn Degner, Jenna Degner, Jackson Christ, Cooper, Carson, and Malia Auen, Drake and Aryana Terpstra, Jude and Crew Janes, George Davis, Emma and Paityn Hardin; many extended family members and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Higgins; infant son Richard Higgins; daughters Susan Blum and Sandy Courter; parents Bernard Higgins and Sylvia Tebben; and brother Harold Higgins.
