Ann Hemphill, age 65 of Carroll, IA, formerly of Odebolt, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Ann Christine Hemphill was born on October 23, 1956, in Ida Grove, IA, to parents Robert and Alice (Hanson) Hemphill. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt and attended the Odebolt-Arthur School District. She remained in school until the age of twenty one at which time she moved to residential living in Council Bluffs. Ann then moved to Carroll and was a resident at New Hope Village, first living in a home with three others before moving to the group home.
Annie loved life. She was an extremely routine gal who knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it. Her precious smile that came along with a “pretty please” was sure to melt the heart of whomever she was asking something of. Annie loved music, especially listening to Elvis Presley. She often strummed her guitar, blew on her harmonica, or played old records. She would dance around so happily! Another thing that brought her great
happiness was watching football. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeyes. Annie also liked watching WWE wrestling on TV. She collected many wrestling magazines over the years and would cut photos out of them to place in a scrapbook she carried around everywhere with her…again, finding great joy in something so small. Her personality was a great attribute to the plays New Hope put on. She loved taking part in each and every one of them playing the characters Cinderella and Pinocchio, to name a few.
Her heart was huge. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed trips to Milford to visit relatives. Annie loved going out to eat and if shopping was on the agenda, she was even happier! Friday nights were ‘booked’ for Annie as she wasn’t about to miss Lawrence Welk. This was something she always enjoyed watching with her parents and so she continued once out on her own. She loved dogs and got to really like horses as she was able to participate in Equine Therapy.
There’s so much one could say about Annie, the list just goes on and on. She was a blessing to not only her family but to the world around her. Always showing love in the simplest of ways. Teaching those around her what it means to have patience. She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest assured her “Addice” (mom Alice), “Daddy” (Dad), and “Gish” (brother Butch) welcomed her with arms wide open the day she entered the gates of Heaven.
Ann is survived by her sister, Joan Davis of Hampton, VA; sister-in-law Judy Hemphill of Odebolt, IA; nephew Jared (Jill) Hemphill of Waukee, IA; niece JoAnn (Steve) Borman of Richmond, VA; great-nephews Brayden Hemphill and Greg Borman; great-niece Stephanie Borman; many cousins, other extended family members and friends.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alice Hemphill; brother Robert “Butch” Hemphill; brother-in-law Jay Blassengame; maternal grandparents Edward and Ella Hanson; paternal grandparents Frank and Marietta Hemphill.
