Evelyna Smith, age 22 of Sac City, IA, formerly of Storm Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in a tragic automobile accident in Crawford County, IA, while driving home from being on duty for the Guard.
Evelyna was born on July 18, 2000, in Pohnpei, Micronesia, to Elwihna Smith, the oldest of five children. The family moved to Arizona when Evelyna was just a toddler and then moved to Storm Lake where she attended both elementary and high school. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 2018 and then attended Iowa State University. Evelyna joined the Iowa National Guard in 2018, as serving her country was very important to her. She and her family moved to Sac City in 2020. Evelyna was employed by Essentia in Lytton, IA.
When in school, Evelyna participated in soccer. She also played softball. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends in her free time.
Special memories of you will always bring a smile, if only we could have you back for just a little while. Then we could sit and talk, just like we used to do…you always meant so very much, and always will, too. The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause us pain, but you’re forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
Evelyna will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Elwihna Smith of Sac City; siblings: Marlon, Maya, Marla, and Elina Smith; grandmother Emerida Smith; two uncles; three aunts; many cousins, other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Kapiriel Smith.
