Sally Wallerstedt, age 62 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City.

Sally Ann was born on April 4, 1960, to parents Robert “Bob” and Karen “Kay” (Cates) Wallerstedt at Loring Hospital in Sac City. She was the second born of five children and was their only daughter. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Christian Church in Sac City. Throughout her life, her faith in God remained strong.

Sally attended school in Sac City and graduated with the class of 1978. This was a great accomplishment after having her daughter, Amanda, in May of 1977. She was born to be a mom. In 1979, her son, Chad, was born. Her children were everything to her and she worked her tail off to provide for them as a single parent.

She loved, loved, LOVED her music. Music made her feel good. She was always a night-owl and whether it was painting beautiful paintings or cleaning her house, she was sure to have her favorite songs playing while doing so.

Sally was an amazing cook and could make almost anything out of nothing. For most of her life she worked as a waitress and cook in local restaurants. She and a friend owned and operated their own restaurant S&L Kitchen on Main Street in Sac City for several years.

Eventually, Sally started a daycare in her home which was likely her favorite job of all. She cared for each and every child like they were her own and those parents would attest to that. Her health started to rapidly decline in her early forties which forced her to give up caring for little ones. It wasn’t long after that though that she became a grandma. Nothing brought her greater joy than being a grandma. She was and will always be so very proud of every one of them. Thankfully, she was in a good enough place health-wise to be able to care for most of them in their early years which meant very strong bonds were made. As stated above, this is what she did BEST…it’s what God wanted her to be able to do and she was so very thankful for it.

Sally was friends with anyone she crossed paths with. She always had a smile on her face and was the most non-judgmental person ever. It took next to nothing to make her happy and she learned very early on that living a simple life was ‘where it was at’. She tried her hardest to instill that into her kids and grandkids by always reminding them that ‘you don’t need big and fancy’. LOVE flowed out of her. She taught it, very openly and freely gave it, and loved receiving it.

Bingo. Bingo must be mentioned as besides caring for and being with her kids and grandkids, it was her favorite thing to do. She knew where she could drive to almost every night of the week to play bingo. Her two kids grew up going along and then her grandkids. In fact, she was asking up until the very end how she might be able to get to Sloan to play bingo. Rest assured she is dabbing her 18+ cards at a time up in Heaven and winning BIG!

She will be missed so very much by all who knew and loved her, and she would want all of you reading this to know just how much she loved each and every one of you. She would also want for all of you to go on living and LOVING the hardest you possibly can because love indeed is the most important part of life.

Sally is survived by her children, Amanda (Chad) Lynch of Sac City, IA, and Chad (Rachel) Wallerstedt of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Macy Lynch of Ankeny, IA, Mia, Ella, Sophie, and Lilah Lynch all of Sac City, IA, Cale and Kendall Wallerstedt of Sac City, IA; brothers: Mitch Wallerstedt (Katrina), Matt Wallerstedt, and  Bill Wallerstedt (Joan) all of Sac City, IA; aunt Sandy Wallerstedt of Storm Lake, IA; Kim (Dennis) Villhauer of Sac City, IA, and their children: Christopher, Casey, Caleb, Camden, and Mason, all of whom she considered her own; many cousins, other extended family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Kay Wallerstedt; maternal grandparents Floyd and Leona Cates; paternal grandparents Russell Wallerstedt, Ruby (Ernie) Niles; brother Mike “Gator” Wallerstedt; uncles and aunts: James Wallerstedt, Richard (Betty) Wallerstedt, Tom Wallerstedt, Karen (Kenny) Flink, Mark Wallerstedt, Gordy Niles, Charles “Chuck” (Cinda) Cates, and Veryl Waldrop; and cousin, Johnny Phillips.
