     Marvin Willard Carlberg, Early, IA, was born in Silver Creek Township on May 9, 1935, to Willard & Tessie (Coalter) Carlberg.  He was a farmer, an Army veteran, an auctioneer, a school bus driver, a devoted husband, a loving father/grandfather/great-grandfather, a devoted son/brother, and a very private person.  In that respect and with his wishes, we will keep this obituary short.

     He is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Lois Elaine (McManigal), or “L.E.” as he often called her; three children: Rhonda (Carey) Schmidt of Schaller, IA, Daniel (Kerri Almaas) Carlberg of Eastsound, Washington, Loree (Mike) Vander Zwaag of Orange City, IA; five grandchildren:  Beth (Mike) Smith of Schaller, IA, Lisa (Claude) Smith of Custer, SD, Lexi Schmidt (fiancé Spencer Schwanz) of Sac City, IA.  Justin Carlberg (Kelly Patience) of Everett, WA, Joshua Vander Zwaag of Blue Springs, MO; five great-grandchildren:  Layton, Wesley & Eden Smith of Schaller, IA,  Jameson Carlberg of Everett, WA, and Baby Smith (due Nov. 2022) of Custer, SD; sister: Darlene Wright;  sisters-in-law: Judith Boyer, Gloria McManigal and Marcia McManigal; a host of cousins, nieces/nephews, and other relatives and friends that he cherished.

     Preceding him in death are his parents; his parents-in-law Donald & Lucille (Harrington) McManigal; sisters: Delores Carlberg and Vivian (Bill) Anderson, brothers-in-law: Robert Wright, Frank Koth, Raymond (Charlotte) Miller, David McManigal and Melvan Boyer; and grandson: James Carlberg.
