Harlan Meyer, age 78 of Lytton, IA, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.  Harlan Alfred Meyer was born on April 15, 1943, to parents Alfred and Erma (Krohn) Meyer in Lake City, IA.  He grew up living in Fonda, IA, and Lytton, IA, where he attended grade school and later graduated from Lytton High School in 1961.  After graduation, Harlan enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army Reserves.

On May 27, 1967, Harlan married the love of his life, Connie Bartlett and to this union, two sons were born.  They raised their family in the Lytton area where Harlan was a PB Hampshire hog farmer.  He also raised Holstein dairy cows and Angus cattle.  He was passionate about his livestock and was a member of the Sac County Pork Producers and was an Iowa and National representative for the Pork Producers Association.  Harlan enjoyed sharing his love for farming with his sons and was often known to prank them with electric fences.

Harlan was a long-time member of the Emanuel-St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lytton, IA.  In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and going camping.  Most of all, he loved being with family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Vernon (Aileen) Meyer of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Justin (Erinn) Meyer of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Paige, Jenna, Caidyn, and Aspen; sister Beverly (Don) Meyer-Vratny and brother Leroy Vernon (Carla) Meyer.

Harlan was preceded in death by his wife Connie Bartlett Meyer; granddaughter Corinne Meyer; grandson Mason Meyer; parents Alfred and Erma Meyer; in-laws: Viola Bartlett and Arthur Bartlett

“My condolences to the family! The last time I saw Harlan was at Janice's wake. I accompanied Mom and Dad back to Iowa. Since we've barely seen one another through the years, Harlan knew who I was and came right up to me to say Hello. We talked as though we've know each other forever. I guess that's how it is to be a member of the Krohn clan. I'm so glad I got to have that brief moment with him. Rest in peace and give Grandma Ethel and Aunt Erma and Uncle Alfred a kiss for me!”

“I would like to give sincere sympathies to Harlan and all his family. Harlan was the ring bearer in my wedding in 1951, so every time I think of him I can look at a picture of the wedding party. Harlan is the handsome boy in that picture. We were separated by many miles over the years, but I cherished seeing Harlan and Leroy and Bev whenever we could make it to a Krohn family reunion. Love and condolences to Harlan's family and friends from Aunt Arla and family, Vicki, Michael, Joni and Bill”
