Gary Vreeland, age 71 of Lytton, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Gary Dean Vreeland was born on November 7, 1950, to parents Richard and Joelle (Buell) Vreeland in Storm Lake, IA. He grew up in the Sac City area where he graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1968. During his High School years, Gary played on the baseball, bowling, and golf teams. After graduation, Gary enlisted to serve his country with the United States Army in 1969. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam for which he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on July 17, 1971.
Gary was blessed with four children in his life: Carl, Jay, Nikkie, and Zachary. He provided for his family by driving truck for several years and helping people farm. In his free time, Gary enjoyed going golfing, shooting pool, gambling with his friends and family, and playing card games, especially cribbage. He also loved to cook for his family gatherings. Other hobbies included playing darts, bowling, throwing frisbees on the beach, deep-sea fishing, watching speed boat races, classic rock music, and attending concerts. Being a Veteran, Gary supported the local V.F.W. He was a great man who will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Carl (Rachael) Strohm (Vreeland) of Barnum, MN, Jay (Amanda) Vreeland of Muscatine, IA, Nikkie (Nick) Peterson of Fort Dodge, IA, and Zachary Vreeland of Lytton, IA; grandchildren: Jeremiah, Aleah, Joelle, Lily, Spencer, Samuel, Lucas, Alexander, AvaGrace, Augustus, Walker, Isabella, Henrick, Harlan, Meadow, Blayde, and two on the way; siblings: Ron Brown, Greg Brown, Wayne Brown, and Brenda Sabate-Brown.
Gary was preceded in death by his father: Virgil Brown; both parents; Debora Vreeland; brother: Glen Brown; and granddaughter Kalia Vreeland.
