Frederick Scheffler, age 82 of Sac City, IA, passed away surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.
Frederick Walter Scheffler was born on January 13, 1940, to parents Milton and Lula (Means) Scheffler in Sac City. He grew up in Sac City where he attended elementary and high school. During and after high school Fred worked as a farm hand for Walt Von Ahn. Fred enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army on March 14, 1963 where he was stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of Specialist 4. He was honorably discharged on February 23, 1965.
On April 25, 1969, Fred was united in marriage to Mary Alice Huffman at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Richie and Matthew. They made their home in Sac City where Fred worked for Sac County Secondary Roads Department for 30 years until his retirement on December 31, 2003. After retirement, Fred kept busy and you could often find him driving a grain truck and helping wherever he was needed for Drey Farms.
To know Fred was to love him. He enjoyed the simple things in life like having a nice yard, playing cards, especially cribbage, enjoying a cold beer with his son, and daily drives around the lake with Mary. He always looked forward to coffee and conversation with friends and his Sunday morning calls with his brother Don. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Fred went by a lot of nicknames but Grandpa was by far his favorite. He was a man of much patience and was so proud of his family and their accomplishments.
Fred was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
