Evelyn Lucille Scharn, age 95 of Lytton, IA passed away on Saturday, January 29th, 2022 peacefully at her home. Evelyn was born on June 27, 1926, to parents Richard and Mamie (Waage) Ziegler in Volga, S.D. Evelyn was baptized at the First Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith in 1940.
Evelyn attended Iowa State University and graduated with a BS in Home Economics/Science in 1948. She started teaching Home Economics and General Science in Lytton in the fall of 1948. On June 19, 1949, Evelyn married the love of her life, Edward Scharn at the First Lutheran Church in Volga, S.D. After several years of teaching, she decided to stay home and raise her family. They were blessed with six children: Susan, Randy, Daryl, Jeff, Kevin, and Brent.
Evelyn kept busy with her large family. She also enjoyed china painting, oil painting, gardening, dancing, and watching her grandchildren. She worked with music mothers and served as a county fair judge. Evelyn loved teaching her 4H girls and did so for 20 years. Her passion was her kitchen. She loved teaching grandchildren and others how to bake from scratch.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Susan (Bill) Mattson of Alta, IA, Randy (Linn) Scharn of Fonda, IA, Daryl Scharn (friend Wendy) of Sac City, IA, Jeff (Lynn) Scharn of Peterson, IA, Brent Scharn (friend Gene) of Sac City, IA, and daughter-in-law Susie Scharn of Lytton, IA; grandchildren: Trisha Booth, Brian Mattson, Daniel Mattson, Angi Esser, Jesse Scharn, Jenny Scharn, Eric Scharn, Matt Scharn, Mike Scharn, Briana Swanson, Brooke Goslinga, Nicole Scharn, Tiffany Evans, Tyler Scharn, Emily Roth, Braden Scharn; 29 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; siblings: Gerald (Marilyn) Ziegler of Franklin, TN, Aryls (Leonard) Eilts of St. Paul, MN, Verdell (Robert) Wiles of Fairfax, VA, Bev (Bruce) Wosje, of Brookings, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward; son Kevin; parents Richard and Mamie Ziegler; siblings: Dick Ziegler, Ron Ziegler, Larry Ziegler, Aline Luckow, Clarice Wells; and her in-laws Delmar Scharn, Mary Scharn, Everett Luckow, Judy Ziegler, and George Wells.
