Leroy Dickman, age 90 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.  Leroy Henry was born on May 31, 1931, to parents Waldo and Katherine (Meyer) Dickman in George, IA.  He attended high school in Quimby, IA, and after graduation, he enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On September 28, 1955, Leroy was united in marriage to Mary.  This union was blessed with five children: Joan, Kathy, Nancy, Mike, and Ann.  They raised their family in the Sac City area where Leroy worked in furniture sales.  After his retirement, he delivered flowers for Marjo’s and Details for many years.  Leroy and Mary enjoyed many trips through the Friendship Club at Iowa State Bank in Sac City.  Leroy was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and also enjoyed fishing.  Most of all, Leroy cherished his time spent with his family.  Almost every family gathering involved many games of cards.  When you were old enough to hold cards and could count, you became part of the game.  There were always a few Quimby deals and when Leroy was done playing, it was time to play for the Buck Buck Championship.

Another favorite past time of Leroy’s was golf.  As soon as the grandkids and great-grandkid’s could walk, it was time to learn how to swing a golf club.  Vacations were even planned around Wednesday night league days.   Leroy definitely gave a few of his grandkid’s his passion for the game.  Sports were also a big part of Leroy’s life, especially the Hawkeyes.  If there was a game on, he was always hollering at the TV.  He could also be found “cheering” at his grandson’s games.

There are many stories to share and we hope you will join us in raising a beer in honor of our Dad, Grandpa, Powie, Great Grandpa, Brother, and Friend.  A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11 AM in the South Park Shelter House in Sac City.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Joan (Charlie) Ockenfels, Kathy (Dave) Lohf, Nancy (Doug) Sackett, Mike (Todd) Dickman and Ann Straus; grandchildren: Ray (Lindsay) Brad, Andrea (Justin) Abby, Ian (Jessica), Tony (Jen), Jeremy (Lisa), Andy (Chelsea), and Devin (Michaela); great-grandchildren: Jaycob, Tori, Alyssa, Miya, Anthony, Brooklyn, Jessica, Addison, Miles, and Liam; his brother, Virgil (Melva) and several extended family members and friends.

Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents and his brother, Lloyd and his wife, Betty.
