James Platt, age 76 of Early, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA.  James David Platt was born on June 4, 1945, to parents James and Rita (Hinrich) Platt in Early, IA. He grew up in Early where he attended Early Catholic School up until the eighth grade.

On April 27, 1974, Jimmy was united in marriage to Virginia Freese. This union was blessed with three children: Jennifer, Christopher, and Donna. They raised their family in Early, where Jimmy worked at the truck stop and the City of Early for several years.  He then started Jim Platt’s Lawn Service and served his community by helping out with all lawn care and maintenance needs.  You could always find Jimmy tinkering with something and trying to fix things.  He liked collecting Ford model cars, delivering the daily newspaper, and spending time with his family.  Those that knew Jimmy will miss his humble and kind personality.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Virginia; children: Jennifer (Tony) Wolterman of Early, IA, Christopher (Stacy) Platt of Early, IA, and Donna Ladehoff (Justin Gosch) of Newell, IA; grandchildren: Lorenzo Jacinto (Caty), Cody Bales, Carlie Bales, Allie Jo Bales, Jordan (AJ) Wehmeyer, Mackenna (Lakota) Wehmeyer, Piper Ladehoff, Boen Ladehoff, Phoebe Ladehoff, Ty Gosch, Caytlin Gosch, and Ava Bendixen; great-grandchildren: Ibana and Adrian Jacinto; brothers: Richard Platt, Bob (Nancy) Platt, Donny (Sheryl) Platt, Tom (Lynn) Platt, and Randy Platt; sisters: Lois Carmen, Shirley Stadler, Connie (Curt) Bronnenberg, Judy (Ron) Warren, and Janet Lightfoot; many extended family and several friends.

“Jimmy was such a great help to my parents in Early. He will be greatly missed. My parents would often speak of Jimmy coming over to help with something--the last of which was hauling the mower to get the wheel repaired. This last summer I got to meet the infamous Jimmy. He was such a great guy and so helpful. The town won't be the same without him. ”
