Betty Mesenbrink, age 91 of Lake View, IA passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Blackhawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA. On February 8, 1930, Betty Louise was born to parents Emmett and Mollie (Dumlar) Hopkins in Red Oak, IA. She grew up in Red Oak where she attended school and continued her education after graduation. She taught school in a country schoolhouse for a while, but it was not her calling.
On August 12, 1956, Betty was united in marriage to Richard Mesenbrink. This union was blessed with two daughters: Lori and Jeanne. Betty and Dick owned/operated the Frozen Frontier Cafe in Lake View from 1960 - 1987. After they retired from the restaurant business, Betty had part-time jobs including Hardware Hank and the Chiropractor's office. Betty loved flowers. She spent a few years traveling around judging flower shows. She helped manage the Memorial Rose Garden in Speaker Park for years. Betty was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Lake View. She loved her church. She also loved bird watching and going for rides around Blackhawk Lake with Richard and their dog, Doxie. Betty also enjoyed working with the Senior meals, where she could visit daily with her many friends. Betty will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Lori (Mark) Tajchman of Marion, KS; grandchildren: Tommy Tajchman and Kevin Ames; great-grandchildren: Eli Looney and Karson Tajchman; sister Rosa-Lee Knight of Richmond, MO; nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard, daughter Jeanne (Mesenbrink) Conran, son-in-law Jimmy Conran, grandson Jerad Ames, and brother Robert Hopkins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Betty's name to the Memorial Rose Garden in Speaker Park. Memorials may be dropped off at Farmers State Bank, Lake View, IA, or mailed to Ruby Cooley, PO Box 584, Lake View, IA 51450
