Ed Ohrtman, age 62 of Fonda, IA, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA.
Edwin Henry Ohrtman was born on September 16, 1959, in Fort Dodge, IA, to parents Thomas and Helen (Carlson) Ohrtman. He was raised in Fonda where he and his older brother, David, attended school. Ed graduated from Fonda High School in 1978.
On March 1, 1980, Ed married Sheryl Marie Gosch at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell, IA. This union was blessed with two children, Carl and Rachel. Ed and Sheryl raised their family on a farm just outside of Fonda.
Throughout his life, Ed worked several jobs. He tended to hog buildings, drove a feed truck, and was a police officer, just to name a few. Most recently, he was store manager at Bomgaars in Sac City.
Ed loved the outdoors and in his spare time, that’s where he could be found. He had a passion for guns which led him to become a gun dealer. As much as he loved guns, he loved even more being able to teach the grandkids about them and loved shooting with them. The “back 40” on the farm provided the perfect area to do this. As a child, Ed spent a lot of time fishing. He also really liked to hunt and trap. Again, if it meant being outdoors, he liked doing it.
Ed also really liked building things. He enjoyed coming up with the ideas/designing things to build. If he was inside, he could be found watching his favorite FOX News. Chances are that he may also be snacking on his favorite colby jack cheese or ice cream…both being his favorite foods.
Ed will be missed dearly, as will the stories he liked to tell. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who loved with all he had.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sheryl Ohrtman of Fonda, IA; children Carl (Sara) Ohrtman of Boone, IA, and Rachel (Travis) Mohwinkel of Fonda, IA; grandchildren: Thomas, Adelyn, and Aleah Ohrtman of Boone, IA, and Emma and Samuel Mohwinkel of Fonda, IA; brother David Ohrtman of Newell, IA; sisters-in-law Phyllis Brus of Lake View, IA and Bettie (Gary) Beckman of Lake View, IA; brother-in-law Steven (Pat) Gosch of Sac City, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Ohrtman; nephew Jonathan Ohrtman; parents-in-law Claus and Thelma Gosch; and brothers-in-law Dennis Gosch and Larry Gosch.
