Deborah Kay Johnson, 71, was born on September 26, 1950, to Charles and Helen (Venzke) Johnson in Schaller, Iowa. They lived in Rembrandt, Iowa until she was three. She then moved to Early, where she lived her life until 2015, when she moved to Jesup, Iowa.
Deb graduated in 1968 from Crestland Community School and right after graduation attended Larson School of Cosmetology. Upon completion, she returned to Early where she started her career at Vera's. In 1970, she opened her own business; Debbie's Beauty Salon, and operated that until 1990. She left that career and opened a daycare in her home for 13 years. She thought of those children she cared for as her own and still followed their careers even to this day. In 2003, Deb was employed at Walmart in Storm Lake, retiring from the pharmacy department in 2015.
At age 15, while attending a Billy Graham movie with her church youth group, Deb gave her life to Christ and followed Him faithfully for the rest of her life. He was her best friend and she often shared the love of Christ and the Gospel with others.
She was an avid reader and Hallmark movie enthusiast. She was a devoted Aunt and was delighted to spend any time she could with her nephews and nieces.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents; maternal and paternal grandparents and a niece Chelsea Wisecup.
She is survived by one brother Darrell (Kim) Johnson; one sister Denise (David) Wisecup: two nephews: Zachary Johnson and Nathaniel (Marissa) Wisecup; two nieces: Ashley Johnson and Allison (Steven) Manning; four great-nephews: Jagger Johnson, Trey Johnson, Griffin Wisecup, and Peter Manning; one great-niece Alexis Gaalswyk; and many friends and family.
Memorial will be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice for the love and care they showed Deb and the family during her last days. A portion of the memorial will also be given to The Chosen to "pay it forward"
and further, share the Gospel with others.
