Opal Simon, age 91, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.  Opal Mae Buxton was born on July 6, 1930, to parents Clark and Grace (Polston) Buxton in Warren County, MO.  She grew up in Warrenton, MO where she attended grade school and later moved to Lake View, IA where she graduated from high school with the class of 1948.

   On May 27, 1951, Opal was united in marriage to Paul Simon in Lake View.  This union was blessed with three children: Dennis, Deanna, and David. They raised their family in Lake View where Opal worked as a secretary for Armstrong Popcorn, which later became Stock Popcorn for several years. Opal was very involved in the First Congregational United Church of Christ and was a Sunday school teacher for 52 years.  She was also on the Board of Elders, and treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship.  Along with being involved in her church, Opal was also the mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls, a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Historical Society.

   Opal had many hobbies including sewing, reading, playing cards, scratch tickets, and bowling.  She also loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing.  Most of all, Opal loved spending time with her family and cooking for family get-togethers.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dennis (Sue) Simon of Rockwell City, IA, David (Vicki) Simon of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Deanna (Keith) Kroeger of Wall Lake, IA; grandchildren: Christian Simon of Barnum, IA, Jeremy Simon of Rockwell City, IA, Kyle (Janessa) Simon of Callender, IA, Karie Simon of Rockwell City, IA, Jaci (Kirby) Ommen of Des Moines, IA, Melissa (Jacob) Moiser of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Megan (Dusty) Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Kevin Kroeger of Lake View, IA, Eric Kroeger of Lake View, IA; great-grandchildren: Kyrsten and Giahnna Simon, Charlieanne Tucker, Arion Simon, Lilly Simon, Brookelyn and Addy Mosier, Lilah and Liam Simon; sister Shirley Bickford of Moyock, NC; several extended family members and friends.

   Opal was preceded in death by husband Paul Simon; parents Clark and Grace Buxton; sisters Phrona Buxton and Evelyn Vogel; brothers-in-law Ervil Vogel and Bill Bickford.
