Sandy Heim, age 85 of Sac City, IA, formerly of Early, IA, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, IA, surrounded in love by her children. Kassandra Kay Kurth was born on December 20, 1935, to parents Rene and Mary Kathryn (Karn) Kurth in Lake City, IA. She went to country school in Calhoun County, IA, and attended Lake City High School.
On June 23, 1952, Sandy married Paul Heim and to this union six children were born: Victoria (Vicki), Charles (Chuck), Barbara (Barb), Eric (Rick), Jeffrey (Jeff) and Kimberly (Kim). Sandy was first and foremost a wife and mother, something she was very proud of. After raising her children, she worked various jobs, including at Bil-Mar Foods in Storm Lake, Payless Cashways in Early, and as a dispatcher for Sac County Emergency Communications.
Sandy loved her community and was a member of the Early Community Development Board where she managed subsidized apartments until her early eighties. She could be found each morning at the Early Community Center, gathered with friends for morning coffee.
Sandy enjoyed reading mystery novels, completing crossword puzzles, playing cards with friends, and tending to her house plants and vegetable garden. However, her most cherished activity was a raucous family get-together at her home in Early.
Left to cherish Sandy’s memory include her children: Vicki Heim of Whitesboro, TX, Chuck (Kendra) Heim of South Point, OH, Barb (Jerry) Weinzetl of Las Vegas, NV, Rick (Kay) Heim of Whitesboro, TX, Jeff (Ann) Heim of Bettendorf, IA and Kim Nibbelink of Sioux Center, IA; a gaggle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers Bill (Karen) Kurth of Lake City, IA, Don (Joan) Kurth of Bullhead City, AZ, Jim (Sue) Kurth of Arvada, CO and sister Mary Kay Litzel of Ames, IA; many nieces and nephews spread far and wide; other extended family members and friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Heim; parents Rene and Kathryn Kurth; brother Bob Kurth; daughter-in-law Irain Lynn (Campbell) Heim; son-in-law Jeff Nibbelink; and grandchildren Jordan Heim and Melanie Heim.
In lieu of flowers or plants the family requests you offer a memorial contribution to New Hope Village in Carroll, IA, where Sandy’s granddaughter, Melanie, was a long-time resident, or the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge, IA, where Sandy passed in comfort and peace.
