Kathryn Meyer

Kathryn Margaret Meyer was born December 13, 1919, in Carnarvon, IA, the daughter of Thomas E. and Clara (Wunschel) Meyer. She was baptized January 18, 1920 and confirmed March 25, 1934 by Rev. Schwidder at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake where she remained a life-long member.

Kathryn graduated valedictorian from Wall Lake High School in 1938 and attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE. in 1938-1939. She taught in rural schools and in Woodbine and Sac City before coming to Wall Lake in 1947. She earned a BA degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1965. She taught in the Wall Lake School 35 ½ years before retiring in 1982, teaching a total of 43 years.

Kathryn passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, IA.

She is survived by her niece Joan Pearson of Lake City and many other family members, friends and teachers. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Clara Meyer; and sister and brother-in-law Frank and Opal Breckenfelder.
