Don Ehler, age 97 of Early, IA, died on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.
Donald Keith Ehler, the son of Harry and Mary (Hunsley) Ehler, was born on December 15, 1922, on the family farm near Early.
Growing up, Don attended grade school and high school in Early. He graduated from Early High School in 1942.
Don entered the United States Army to serve his country on November 16, 1945. During his time of service, he earned the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1946.
On March 10,  1962, Don was united in marriage to Patricia Svejda in Pomeroy, IA. The couple raised five children together: Randall, Jeffrey, Keith, Timothy, and Stacey.
Don was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Early.
Throughout his life, Don was a farmer. He lived on the same family farm his whole life and farmed the land with his family. He started farming with his father and eventually, with his son, Keith. He never retired and only stopped farming when he physically couldn’t do so anymore.
In his free time, some of Don’s hobbies included woodworking, being a repairman, and constructing buildings. He was creative and enjoyed tinkering with broken objects. He loved teaching his family how to do things and always had patience with everything in life. Don will be forever remembered as a loving family man, who would do anything for his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia Ehler of Early, IA; children: Randall (Danelle) Essing of Iowa City, IA; Jeffrey (Lu Ann) Essing of Spencer, IA; Keith Ehler of Early, IA; Timothy (Jalonna) Ehler of Early, IA; Stacey (Michael) Kennedy of Wheat Ridge, CO; grandchildren: Benjamin Essing, Sara (Andrew) Ogle, Donaven Ehler, Madelyn Ehler, Addisen Ehler; great-grandchildren: Blake, Brody, and Bryce Essing, Raelynn, Colton, and Graysen Ogle; many extended family members and friends.
