Robert Lee Tegels, age 78 of Lake View, Iowa passed away on October 6, 2020, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa. Bob was born on December 20, 1941, to Frank and Margaret (Buse) Tegels of Lake View. He was born, raised and resided on the family farm. Bob completed a family of three older sisters and two older brothers, Katharine, Elva, Edna, Arvel and Denny.

Bob was baptized in the farm house on February 6, 1942. He was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer, IA, on April 3, 1955. Bob graduated from Lake View High School in 1959. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve unit in Sac City for six months. He continued to serve his country until he was Honorably Discharged April 30, 1967.

Upon his return, he started farming with his dad, Frank. Farming was his lifelong passion and one of his greatest commitments for the next 56 plus years. They raised pigs, cattle, sheep, corn, beans and oats.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Waunita Poen on December 1, 1962, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. They moved to the family farm soon after as Frank and Margaret were ready to retire. Bob and Waunita later welcomed two children, Marsha and Lyle.

Bob was active in Church as an elder and a member of the financial committee. He was a member of the Sac County Pork Producers. After his work was finished Robert enjoyed playing cards, golfing, reading, dancing, traveling and attending his children and grandchildren‘s activities. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years, Waunita Tegels of Lake View; daughter Marsha (Eric) Newton of Britt, IA; son Lyle (Lori) Tegels of Lake View; grandchildren: Ryan (Stephanie) Newton, Christina (Tyler) Rahm, Courtney (Colin) Schreck, Connor Tegels and Carly Tegels; great-granddaughter Caroline Newton; brother-in-law Robert Poen; sister-in-law Wanda (Robert) Freese; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Tegels; parents-in-law Bill and Ruth Poen; sisters: Katharine (Norman) Scar, Elva (Laine) Kohtz, Edna (Wally) Meyer; brothers Arvel Tegels and Dennis Tegels; sister-in-law Betty Poen; and great-granddaughter, Hayden Newton.

“Waunita and family, I am so sad to hear of your loss in Bob’s passing. He will be missed by so many. I miss the talks he and I used to have in which he would answer my questions about farming history. He knew so much. He epitomized to me the very best of a strong, good-willed, and God-fearing Iowa farmer and family man. I am sorry I will miss the funeral, but several of our classmates will be there. I will be watching Live Steam. ”

“Bob will be truly missed. He always had such a big smile on his face at all times. I still remember the first time I met him. He thought I couldn't drive a fork lift. Still makes me smile. My thoughts and prayers go to all of his family. It is hard to lose a loved one. Just take it 1 day at a time.”
